Waking Up Horton (1998)
A fun children's movie
I purchased the movie because Dirk Benedict is in it. I was delighted to find an interesting plot and charming characters -- Horton the indian is a lot like Drop Dead Fred. And Dirk, as always, is beautiful and talented, and well-suited to an older romantic lead.
Mission to Mars (2000)
Best Cast in Worst Movie
I was hyped and ready for this movie. When it started I thought I was in for quite an entertaining ride. But as the movie progressed, the dialogue got more predictable and even BAD. The horrible score (something fitting of a 50's sci -fi movie) constantly reminded me I was only watching a movie.. and a bad one at that. Over all, I feel horrible for the wonderful actors involved in this abymsal project. And to you ,the reader, I caution, DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY. It is horrible. From the trite dialogue to the recycled special effects. It's a B movie with a big budget.

Eyes Wide Shut (1999)
GodAwful Boring.
Despite the wonderful acting talent of Cruise and Kidman, this final work of Kubrick went off with not a bang, but a whimper. The plot was predictable, the movie long and tedious. Potential viewers beware: save your dollars and wait for video, where you may fast forward through the mundane and altogether skip the mediocre and anticlimatic last few lines of dialogue.
Ravenous (1999)
Charles Manson Meets the Donner Party
This is the worst movie of 1999 (so far). It was embarrassing seeing Jeffery Jones and Jerremy Davies (of Saving Private Ryan) in this pathetic thriller. While the official website for this movie states that 20th Century Fox does not condone cannibalism, it should also add on the disclaimer that it DOES condone B movies. The soundtrack was jarring, lapsing from bad thriller music to quasi-banjo "chase" music. No characters were believable. The plot required a lot more than simple suspension of disbelief. Patrons left the theatre mid movie after having paid full price admission for this tripe. The only redeeming part of the films were Jeffery Jones' lines: "It's lonely being a cannibal. It's tough making friends." In short - save your money.
What Dreams May Come (1998)
Effects more convincing than plot.
While the special effects were moving, the plot itself was fairly predictable. I was surprised that I was not moved to tears, as I am by most of Hollywood's tear-jerker films. However, this is not necessarily a movie to miss - one feels closer to friends and family after watching this film.
Antz (1998)
Geared Towards Adults, Not Children.
Antz, while appearing to be a cartoon, really is a movie geared towards adults rather than children. Strangely enough, it is a story more out of the genre of Orwell or "Brave New World" than the Saturday morning cartoons for children. This is Woody Allen vs. The System. The laughs I heard from the audience were from adults; children were silent or asking explanations from nearby adults.
