Mulan (1998)

The growth of the typical Disney heroine
3 December 1998
There are two things I love about this movie, aside from its stunning and beautiful animation. One is that I love the fact that Disney is exploring legends from other cultures and I am so glad it brought us this one. The other is that I just wanted to stand up and cheer at this great heroine. I am a huge fan of Disney movies, but most of the heroines, while spunky, are still just your basic damsel in distress. I loved Mulan's character. She was strong, she was powerful, she could do anything she wanted, and she overcame much diversity. I was thrilled to see the portrayal of a strong female character surviving because of her own integrity and strength rather than because of her looks. Bravo, Disney, for bringing us this wonderfully progressive Chinese tale.

Computer animation at its best
3 December 1998
I loved this movie. Aside from the charming plot and characters, the computer animation deserves a whole other set of accolades. I loved Toy Story and this movie has taken the incredible animation from that one and made it smoother, more seamless, and more beautiful. It just amazes me how amazing the look of this movie was. It was truly a technological feat. I think that Disney has a real hit with this one.

A magical movie

I just have to say that I love this movie. It is truly enchanting and magical and if you think about it more deeply, it carries an extremely valuable message. I think this is a movie that is worthy for both kids and adults. I wish more movies made me feel as good as this one does.

Simply the best

I adore this film. I have since I was quite young. I have seen it about a million times and it gets better every time I see it. And now that the video is so affordable, I can watch the beautiful cinematography, the vibrant characters, and the compelling story over and over. This is my all time favorite movie and it will just never have a parallel. Just looking at the scene of all the wounded soldiers on the railroad tracks in Atlanta still takes my breath away. Even in this day and age of trillion dollar visual effects, that scene is an absolute marvel.
