Star Trek: First Contact (1996)
This was a GREAT movie
I'm not sure why everyone here seems to hate this movie. Every complaint seems to be nerdy Trekky babble. I'm not a big Star Trek fan, but I do like the Next Generation. I didn't care too much for Generations, but this one was excellent. Insurrection wasn't too bad either. First Contact had a great story and Frakes did an excellent job of directing. I'm also very happy Jerry Goldsmith was brought in to score this movie along with Insurrection. McCarthy's score to Generations was very boring. His work was fine for the show, but it doesn't really work in a movie.
If you want to see an excellent movie, see First Contact. In my opinion, the best of the Star Trek series.
Very Bad Things (1998)
Disappointment
I like dark comedies, but the first hour of this movie was not funny at all! It was just very disturbing. It almost seemed like two directors did this movie. I never walk out of a movie and I really wanted to during this. Around the second half it picked up a little and started to show a little humor. I did like the way it ended. First half: D- Second Half: B- Overall: C-
A Bug's Life (1998)
Excellent movie!
I was expecting a good movie, but it was even better than I thought it would be. Amazing animation, great character design, a nice plot with a non stop ending. Please stay for the end credits..you'll be glad you did. I haven't seen "ANTZ" and I know they are supposed to be taken as two completely different movies, but all I hear is "ANTZ is great. "A Bug's Life" can't compete with it." Well, this is the way I feel about "A Bug's Life". I feel it would be very hard for "ANTZ" to be better. I guess I haven't seen ANTZ yet because the character design looks very boring and the main character "Z" looks just like a typical Woody Allen character which, in my opinion, gets a little old. I won't comment any more on the movie since I haven't seen it, but do go see "A Bug's Life."
Small Soldiers (1998)
A Letdown
I was really looking forward to seeing this movie. I love Joe Dante films and I thought he could really make this into a good movie. I was not able to get into this movie at all. The soldiers were all just army cliches that got real tiring. Every character was really boring, especially Chip Hazard. Even Phil Hartman was boring..and making Phil Hartman boring is pretty hard to do! The only thing I liked was the Jerry Goldsmith score. I walked out of the theater not real admitting that it was bad. I later came to terms with it. If you see it expecting something like "Toy Story" you will be very disappointed.
Stuart Saves His Family (1995)
Better than most people think
I heard bad things about this movie for a while, but I found it to be a decent movie. I'm not quite sure why most people dislike it so much.
