Ken Marino, who appeared on the Starz show Party Down with Ryan Hansen, appears playing a version of himself directing a reboot of that show for YouTube Premium (formerly YouTube Red), the same streaming service that Hansen's show is on - though apparently "Party Up" (name of the reboot) gets a lot more perks than does RHSCoT. A couple of years after this episode, Starz announced that Party Down would get another season, ten years after the show originally ended.
Episode title references both The Office (2001 and 2005 version) and Party Down (2009)
Ken Marino, playing a version of himself, is directing a reboot of the his and Ryan Hansen's show Party Down (2009). According to Marino, Hansen's character on that show, Kyle Bradway, was killed off; Kyle wanted to do pyrotechnics for his band and he burned himself to a crisp, all of which occurred off-camera. "That guy's not coming back," says Marino by way of letting Hansen know he won't be a part of the reboot. Further more, again according to Marino, "Adam (Scott), Lizzy (Caplan), Martin (Starr) and Jane (Lynch) all said they could carve out a little time" to appear in the reboot, while Megan Mullally couldn't do it because she was working on the Will and Grace reboot (which ran from 2017 to 2020). In 2022 Starz announced a third season of Party Down. Contrary to Marino's cast list for the fictional reboot, both Hansen and Mullally are returning while it's Lizzy Caplan who's unable to appear.
