The lunar base Jamestown is named after the Jamestown settlement in the Colony of Virginia which was the first permanent English settlement in America in 1607.
In the alternate history, Ted Kennedy won the 1972 election. One learned previously that he did not go to a planned party after the Soviet landing on the moon. In real history the party led onto the 'Chappaquiddick incident', which damaged his reputation. George McGovern was the Democrat candidate, but lost decisively. He lost the centre ground, which Kennedy might plausibly have kept.
Hanging in the Baldwins' hall is a painting of a black panther eating a human body (representing Ed). This is Wayne Cobb's rendering of Karen's recurring nightmare, which he gave her in the previous episode to help her overcome her anxiety as an astronaut spouse.
