West Hollywood-based indie distribution outfit Indican Pictures (“Gossamer Folds”) has secured North American rights for Santiago Fillol’s political thriller “Matadero” (“Slaughterhouse”).
The debut fiction feature from the Argentine director saw its world premiere in competition at Locarno in 2022, with further festival bows at Mar Del Plata and Seville before December theatrical runs in Argentina and Spain via Cinetren and Begin Again Films, respectively.
Negotiations were handled by Randolph Kret of Indican Pictures alongside Brett Walker and partner Miguel Angel Govea at Alief (“Driving Mum”), who handle world sales on behalf of the filmmakers outside of Argentina, France, Spain and Switzerland.
“Indican Pictures is pleased to acquire the Argentinian film “Matadero”– it’s a compelling story that will have viewers on the edge of their seat,” Indican co-founder Randolph Kret told Variety.
Set up in the Argentine pampas, 1970, the narrative nods to the shocking, hyper-realistic cinema of the era and follows U.

Exclusive: Yeardley Smith’s Paperclip Ltd is looking to turn Tom Wood’s forensic science bestseller Ruxton: The First Modern Murder into an unscripted podcast and a limited scripted series.
The company, which Smith, best known as the voice of Lisa Simpson, set up with Ben Cornwell, optioned the rights to Wood’s book, which was shortlisted for Saltire Society of Scotland’s National Book Awards 2022.
While book to TV adaptations is a well-trodden path, adding an unscripted podcast into the mix is an unusual step, but comes as Hollywood is stepping up its interest in the audio medium.
The move comes as Paperclip Ltd’s flagship true crime podcast Small Town Dicks, which launched in 2017, has seen 1M downloads per month.
Ruxton: The First Modern Murder describes the 1935 disappearance of a glamorous young wife and her dutiful maid, whose deaths would result in one of the most complex investigations the world had ever seen.

Actress Alexandra Grey, who was recently seen on the festival circuit in the indie drama Gossamer Folds, is set to recur on CBS’s MacGyver.
She will play Parker, a transgender female Phoenix engineer who has been tapped by director Matty Webber (Meredith Eaton) to provide critical assistance to MacGyver and the Phoenix team. Whether it be cracking cyphers to solve a case or lending a supportive ear when needed, Parker has their back. Her episodes will begin airing March 12.
Grey stepping into the role of Parker aligns with the ongoing need for authentic representation of the trans community and other historically underrepresented (and misrepresented) voices in Hollywood.
In addition to the aforementioned Gossamer Folds, Grey can currently be seen in Greg Berlanti’s HBO Max docuseries Equal. Her TV credits also include recurring roles in Empire, Chicago Med and Transparent. In addition, she has guest-starred on The Alienist, How to Get Away With Murder,...

When director Lisa Donato came on board to helm “Gossamer Folds,” casting a trans actor to play the lead was imperative. “It was non-negotiable,” she says of her directorial debut.
Even more important was getting the framing and lighting right, and for that, Donato recruited her frequent collaborator and trans cinematographer Ava Benjamin Shorr to make the right choices when it came to “accurately depicting a trans person.”
“Gossamer Folds,” now screening at Outfest LA’s film festival, tells the story of a friendship between Gossamer, played by “Transparent’s” Alexandra Grey, and a young white boy named Tate (Jackson Robert Scott). But Tate’s transphobic father learns about Alexandra and forbids him from talking to his new friend. However, Tate defies his father’s orders to form a powerful friendship.
