Speechless!

There are no words that can be added from my part that will make justice to this show, still I feel fortunate because I have the opportunity to watch it and I must review this. David Dawson is simply a monster, period! Such a great actor! The plot is extremely well written, the music is superb and the photography is breath-taking...I have watched many series, but this one is without no doubt one of my favourite. Thank you Netflix for such a good series and keep invest in it...it will also remain written as a Masterpiece! Long Live the Last Kingdom!

Marvelous

Even though this story is very different than books, I really love it. Adaptation in books to tv is simply Amazing. King Alfred is the very best Character compared in any other shows where are kingdoms. He deserves an Emmy or A Golden globe for this. Absolutely great performance and otherwise show is stunning and tense in every lever

Stunning

Warning: Spoilers
David Dawson gives the performance of his career in this episode, as King Alfred at the end of his days. His acting, the moving conversation between Alfred and Uhtred, the Anglo-Saxon chronicle prop (for us history buffs) and the haunting shot of Alfred waiting in the background makes this the best episode of The Last Kingdom.

David Dawson's King Alfred was enough to make the show worth watching despite many irritating characters. His screen presence on this show will be sorely missed.

Supreme.
mmccrory-7978013 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
In many ways representative of this outstanding season, it's mad how this show just gets better and better. This episode centres on the death of Alfred and his last interaction with Uthred, and the acting for this scene is just so elite and brings to fruitation three seasons of each characters development. This is the pinnacle of storytelling.

This episode has less of the amazing action which is a cornerstone of the series, but allows the greater themes of identity, redemption, legacy and honour to shine. The scene between Alfred and Uthred is emotional and excellent in every way from writing to acting. It brings full circle the relationship between the two men which has been the clear stand out of the series, and it's clear awards material. It's watching entertainment like this which makes you appreciate just how supreme this show is amongst the heaps of mediocre and average content out there these days, much of which is better known.

The best dialog in any series
rafcity24 November 2020
I have repeated the dialog between Alfred and Uhtred many times. It is one of the best dialogs in any of the series I have watched. Alfred has demonstrated what a King he is. His choice of words, the depth of his meaning and the manner he controlled the conversation befit him as one of the greatest king. He will certainly be missed.

Best episode of an unforgettable series
HuskerCubs7215 May 2021
This episode is easily the best of the entire series. It started fairly low budget in season one but when they realized what they had this became the peak of the series. Usually when a series peaks, it marks the beginning of the end but this episode truly showed what this time period was about. Uhtred may be an entirely fictional character but what happened in England at this time is an amazing story. Cannot wait for the next seasons every year.

Unmatched
Ado425 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
After finishing the show, I have come back to review this episode because it's still the greatest episode in the show, completely unmatched.

A culmination of the entire arc between Alfred and Uhtred, every grievance, every offense, every bonding and every time they've helped each other was completely felt in the dialogue between them. Each and every word was filled with overarching ideas of their legacies, Alfred's dream of england (and uhtreds role in itt), and lastly, alfred apologizing before it's too late. It was extremely cathartic, truly peak writing.

The acting from both was great as well, in particular Alfred's actor, this was almost certainly the peformance of his carreer.

She decides she knows more than everyone, including the king she holds in such high regard, and she just gets away with it? Soooooo tired of her ridiculous piety.

Best episode in the series so far

Warning: Spoilers
No show compares to TLK, except Game of Thrones. In this episode King Alfred finally opens up to Uhtred, and gives him the credit, value and respect he's deserved all along. Alfred couldn't die without making things right with Uhtred. Uhtred had saved the king's son from illness, his daughter and kingdom from the Danes, and yet, the King had not embraced Uhtred! Until this episode, when king Alfred finally does! Such great actors and dialog! Beautifully executed. My favorite episode without a doubt.

Honor and respect I wish was around today
williamfitstyle29 July 2022
This show is so well written and acted that it really does put every other show to shame.

To find a way to show the sacrifice of a single man and how king Alfred finally showed his respect to uhtred in such a beautiful way got to me.

You always knew king Alfred respected uhtred, with the way he stood there during most of his losses. His young child, the death of his shadow queen, Alfred was there, even if he took his kids to the church it was also to make sure they were protected because of everything he whitenesses uhtred had been through.

I hope these type of shows come to be made.

Wow

I'm honestly in awe of this episode. It is incredible. The actor playing as King Arthur deserves an award for his performance. I've never witnessed anyone portraying him better. Watching this gave me goosebumps and tears. This really was a beautiful, meaningful, and powerful episode. I look forward to this season's finale, and highly recommend this show to anyone who hasn't seen it!

David Dawson you'll be missed!
sue-062393 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
What an outstanding performance by David Dawson as King Alfred over these first three series. I'm sad that we won't see him again because he's been mesmerising.

His complex relationship with Uhtred has played out brilliantly and, at the end, their conversation was emotional and touching.

He gave King Alfred a commanding presence that belied his frail health and I think he should have won an award for this role.

The Last Kingdom is getting better and better but it has now lost a superb actor.

I was also delighted to see Ethelwold get his comeuppance for his cowardly and brutal murder of Ragnar.

I look forward to Series 4.

Hells gates open

The end has finally come for one major story and it will undoubtedly mark the opening of hells gates. That ending though, was unexpected and I am definitely not okay.
