This was rather good.

Max and Miranda are undercover, and watch a priceless icon being handed over to the Church, a Russian oligarch, the benefactor.

After the minor blip in the previous episode, the show got back on track with The Oligarch's Icon. Very much a death in Paradise episode fronted by the unique duo of Max and Miranda, she's still a stickler for the rules, he's very much a bit of a lad.

The camera work is glorious, it looks amazing, but it's the chemistry between the two leads that's most enjoyable.

Very good. 8/10

The Oligarch's Icon

The episode starts off with a daring heist as a wealthy Russian prepares to handover a valuable painting back to the church in Mallorca.

Max and Miranda who posed as waiters are left with egg on their faces after the theft.

Max gets hold of a contact, a dodgy painter for some leads. Miranda prefers proper police work and wants to probe the generous Russians.

There is good rapport between the main characters with both also liking each other. There were enough action and twists here to make it entertaining.

I quite liked this one!

Warning: Spoilers
The first two episodes of "The Mallorca Files" were not very impressive, but still watchable enough. "The Oligarch's Icon" is easily the best of the three. It's not a fantastic entry, but manages to be quite solid in the long run.

Let's start with the good aspects, shall we?

. The production values of the episode are great as usual. The directing was surprisingly good and the music fits the scenery. Julian Looman and Elen Rhys work wonderfully together.

. The story is intriguing indeed with welcome humor and well-done action scenes.

But...

. There are times, when the story gets predictable and could have benefited from a couple of twists and turns. For example: it was no surprise that the russian woman committed the theft.

Overall, good, but not great.

Mallorca

Warning: Spoilers
Mallorca Files is a cozy crime drama, set in sunny Mallorca, Spain and it's kind of like Death in Paradise.

I like the chemistry between the two lead stars in Mallorca Files, the British-Welsh actress Elen Rhys who plays Detective Miranda Blake and Austrian-German actor Julian Looman playing Max Winter, and his English is quite decent and more than enough to order a beer in a Northern Irish pub.

Here the detectives are on the hunt for a religious artifact, and there's lots of fun and banter between the detectives, along with the gorgeous, sunny scenery of Mallorca where it doesn't appear to rain and you don't see lager louts running amok.
