Pretty good
Headturner120 October 2020
I just finished Wentworth and was looking for something . By the 4th episode I was really enjoying this. I just wish it didn't end so abruptly and there was at leat 1 more episode so we can see what happens with everybody. I don't think it could have run more than a few seasons because it didn't have a lot of side stories and t didn't get as in depth into the girls back grounds but I do with there was more cuz OITNB is crap.

Mediocre prison drama
chrisj89200930 April 2019
As a fan of prison dramas such as Bad Girls, Prisoner: Cell Block H and Wentworth, I was intrigued when I heard that a new women's prison drama would be coming UK screens in 2019. When I heard that that it was going to be an original production for 5Star and that it was going to be called "Clink", I started to think bad acting, awful writing and that it won't last beyond the first season. After watching the first episode, I have to say I was pretty surprised, as it was a little better than I expected it would be. The one thing that actually got me interest was that Alicya Eyo who played prisoner, Denny Blood in Bad Girls was going to be the governor in this series. When I watched it however, I wasn't exactly bored, but wasn't thrilled either. Nothing dramatic, no fights, not even a sense of threat. The prisoners are actually polite. The acting is just ok. There isn't that nervous build-up when you know something big is coming. It's no Bad Girls and I doubt it ever will be as good, but I think it may have potential to go somewhere. I can't exactly recommend it, but at least watch the first episode, you'll know if you want to go any further.

Terrible. Do Not Recommend
pawlett45027 April 2019
When I started watching this, first thoughts on the programme is that it is full of bad dialogue as they sound like they are on a playground talking to each other. I thought I would give it a chance on episode 2 but it just gets worse with bad visual effects and even more bad dialogue and more bad acting. I do not recommend watching this unless you are struggling with something to watch.

Dreadful. Poor plot, wooden acting, bad visual effects, innacurate representation of prison
loislane-2444628 April 2019
Having worked in prisons for 15 years I thought I may enjoy this. I was wrong. The plot is slow and storylines poor. The innacuracies in the roles of prison officers and governors is soo bad it makes me feel embarrassed as to how the public may perceive HMP staff. The acting is really terrible and wooden, the actors are really unconvincing, and none of the characters are likeable. Really badly written and I've never seen such a clean prison and clean polite prisoners!! Also, the scene where the Gov is at the hospital, the 'special' effects were so bad, its obvious the actor wasn't really there. All in all, one to be avoided.

Dire plot, acting and visual effects
thomwilson-7985130 April 2019
I don't think I can take any more after just two episodes of dire plot lines, poor acting and even poorer visual effects. The environment, characters and story lines are unconvincing. That scene depicting the new governor 'outside' the hospital, oh my God how bad was that!?! Bin it now before any more of Channel 5's budget is wasted.

Not too bad but not too good has potential
loupatton29 April 2019
People need to understand this was made with a low budget so people rating it below a 3 clearly don't understand tv the cast is good considering it's all British actors and actresses also the plot line could be better but the show definitely has potential it's never going to be as good as bad girls, wentworth or oitnb!!! Definitely worth watching if you like prison tv shows

Poor prison drama
john-williams-621 June 2019
I was hoping this would be good, oh was I wrong it's poor compared to prison cell block h,bad girls,Wentworth prison. It needed to be more gritty this was like a prison camp for the soft prisoners in the world. If and I mean if it gets a second season it needs to up its game.

Shockingly bad
johildred7 June 2019
I was a fan of bad girls and prisoner so I thought I would give this a watch. It's pretty bad, I've actually enjoyed it purely because of how bad it is! The writing is atrocious, they try too hard to add subtle hints into scenes to build on story lines and it doesn't really work and you end up being confused as to what's actually going on. The acting is not much better, some of them come across as caricatures, they're not convincing as actual people. One of them, Sherri I think comes across as a knock off Shell Dockley and seems to have no awareness of how unconvincing she is. It looks as if this was filmed in an old college, not a prison, which again makes it unconvincing. Conclusion: so bad that it's entertaining to watch

Poor plot
mikesfakeaccount7 September 2022
Looking at the breakdown of the ratings I thought that men were just rating it lower because it's a show about women. That was a wrong assessment.

The new governess had beed the deputy governess for two weeks, but now seems to know nothing about the prison.

The "intimidating" inmate is someone you'd have a little laugh at, and would be a minor annoyance at worst. There is also no way anyone would confuse her as part of the staff.

You've got a bungling new guard who sits on control panels and can't find his way around even with a map. It's not a big prison, walking through it once you'd remember where everything is.

Understanding is key
loza-756982 July 2019
Other reviews are often too harsh; it's the first of it's kind for this channel, the budget isn't in the millions. We know that, and we should appreciate it. I think it does a fantastic job of showing the isolation and brutality of prison life, without going over the top

There is something to be admired in the beautiful and subtle dialogue, and making the most from a small budget, to just focus on the characters.

I have to say that Katherine, aka, Chloe is incredible. When she is emotional, I feel it so. That's the true power of an actress and I'm confident she has a bright future ahead of her, or at least I hope so!

Reminds me of them amateur dramatics groups that go to high schools for PSE/PSHE
heftyjeff14 May 2019
When the acting isn't dull, it's pantomime. Plotlines make zero sense as if it's being rewritten entirely during filming, characters/roles in the hierarchy completely random. The whole team of cast & crew must've really worked hard together to create something so cringeworthy, I can't see anyone wanting credit for this in the future, never mind CV filler material.

I absolutely love Clink, and have just got my sister to start watching it too. Couldn't believe it ended so hoping that there will be another series. I was a big fan of bad girls and this is just as good. This is a good program to binge watch on and gets you hooked. x

Brilliant British prison drama series aimed at a young audience
clc-3033429 June 2019
Absolutely brilliant British teen prison series. Acting from all cast is absolutely spot on and some very talented young actors. The actors throughout cannot and should not be criticised, but applauded for their hardwork and dedication. This is a British prison series of young female offenders. I would advise the audience is aimed at teenagers and young adults (similar audience preference as the teenage drama series Skins). It is unfair and illogical to compare the series to other already existing prison series. The purpose of a new series is simply that it is new, and not to recreate already existing prison series. There are very limitted prison series based in Britain and this is one of the fee which has been created extremely efficiently and affectively. The scenes throughout remained accurate and realistic. Many aspects created an eye opening realisation for the young audience by demonstrating how easily people can get onto the wrong side of the law having ever lasting lifelong impact on lives. Not only is this a very talented enjoyable series for a young audience (advised 16 years plus), but also somewhat educational. I will be extremely disappointed if a further series isn't brought out. It is time the actors and the series itself was given the recognition that is so clearly deserves!

Stick with it
geesim18 March 2023
Well this was a rare find. I have always been a fan of prison drama since cell block h and the genre has come a long way since then.

The first couple of episodes had some rough edges, some poor acting and the low budget was quite evident. I only stuck with the series because I love the genre.

I am so glad I did!

The acting of all the characters really embedded as it progressed and the intricate story lines that developed were gripping. So much so that the budget became irrelevant.

The last few episodes really took me by surprise where twists in the story were fast paced and unpredictable yet fully believable.

I found myself caring for every character in different ways and think each actor shined by the close.

Well done to all involved!

I really wish a season two was coming but given the gap in time it seems unlikely.

I would truly love to know what happened next. So many questions.

Thanks for the great show.

Entertaining
katiestewart-1335326 July 2019
This is an entertainment series and I have to say it is exactly that - entertaining. For all the people pointing out inaccuracies, it isn't a documentary and so they need to get over it. I found it very entertaining and thoroughly enjoyed it. Hope there's a second series
