The Firestone Tire Factory originally opened in 1928, and closed in 1980. In the following years, it has become a famous film location. Half a year after GymkhanaTEN was filmed here, Childish Gambino filmed the mega-hit "This is America" in the building.
Crew sizes can vary heavily on the Gymkhana films, depending on how much set decoration is involved, what kinds of police assistance is needed to close roads, etc. For this segment in Los Angeles there were over 80 people on set every day, and it was one of the smaller crews.
Ken Block and Brian Scotto's first project working together was the 2005 Gumball 3000 rally. Block, along with DC Shoes co-founder Damon Way and skateboarder Rob Dyrdek each drove a car in the star studded race across Europe. Scotto accompanied Ken as co-driver.
The Cossie won ten WRC events over the years and was initially developed by Malcolm Wilson, the current owner of M-Sport, one of the teams behind Ken's current Ford Focus RS RX.
Although in Gymkhana Three Ken created sparks simply by burning through the tires, in order to have the wheels hold up for long days of filming, custom fitments were made with steel bands reinforcing and wrapping the exterior of the wheel. The actual wheels provided by fifteen52 don't make contact with the surface.
