A Pleasant Surprise
MysteryOne30 November 2020
Probably the best episode of the series so far. Finally some big questions start to be answered and the way its done is just beautiful and spetacular. This season really is stepping up the quality and becoming the big surprise of the year.

Tower of the Angels

Warning: Spoilers
There is always a tendency for a television adaptation of a fantasy series to drag a little after the opening episodes.

So I was pleasantly surprised that this was chock packed with content and some exposition dump. A surprise guest appearance and a revelation that actually makes you think that the Magisterium might have a point when they wish to suppress knowledge.

It looked wonderful and you have to remind yourself that this is being done on a BBC television budget. The Tower of Angels and with witches attack of the airships were a highlight.

It is Will Parry's turn to be heroic as he loses several fingers to gain possession of The Subtle Knife. Terence Stamp appears as Giacomo who trains Will to use the knife.

Lee Scoresby encounters Colonel John Parry now living as a shamen called Jopari after his return to his world has been blocked off.

The real shocker was when Dr Malone talks to the angelic dust. Vengeance is the reason why these angels interfere in human evolution. Dark matter with literal dark reasons.

The Subtle Knife
claudio_carvalho20 March 2023
Lyra and Will look for a means to enter into the Tower of the Angels, to find the knife. Boreal tries to lure Mary Malone to get her research about the Dust, but she sends him away. Lee and Grumman meet each other and they team-up to protect the subtle knife from going to wrong hands. Lyra and Will find an entrance to the tower and they meet the bearer of the subtle knife, Giacomo Paradisi, and he tells that a boy has just stolen the knife from him. The boy is Tulio, who confronts Will and Lyra and cut two fingers of Will off before he is subdued. Will learns from Giacomo how to open and close a window to another world and becomes the bearer of the knife. Serafina Pekkala, Ruta Skadi and other witches that survived the Magisterium attack gets revenge.

"Tower of the Angels" is another good episode of "His Dark Materials", with Lyra and Will achieving the magic subtle knife. The reason why Will need to lose to fingers is silly and hard to understand why the boy has to be mutilated in a juvenile movie. The war between the witches and the Magisterium is eminent. My vote is eight.

The stories of Mrs Coulter and Lord Boreal leads them to Cittagazze, Lyra and Will's search for The Subtle Knife leads them to the Tower of the Angels(also, loved their chemistry) , Mary's search for dust leads her to Xephania(Angel), Witches' fight for Vengence and Great War, Lee's journey to save Lyra leads him to Jopari(John Parry) and Cittagazze. Keeping me at the edge of the seat, and can't wait to see the next episode!
