Season one hooked me. Loved it. 3 episodes into season 2 and I am so disappointed. What are the writers doing? They are ruining a great show.

Some say this is a coming-of-age story, some say it's about a boy trying to get out of poverty. I say it's about a introverted boy, under trying circumstances like most young boys of color, who are living/raised in an extreme at risk home life. So many things happen and he does not know what to say about them, and he never really says what he wants to say, this keeps him in a deep emotional war, but at the end...... you'll find out...... no spoiler alert here!! watch to the end then go back and rewatch the whole show. You will see it differently the second time.

Great acting and writing

Starts off slow but it picks up every episode. Brilliant show, great cast and writers. I recommend for those who appreciate art overall. I appreciated the writing the most but the actors did well. Great show.

Very strong Pilot episode made me want to watch it again - IMMEDIATELY! From the brilliant co-writer of MOONLIGHT, this stylized drama takes off like a rocket. Fantastic acting from the amazing ensemble - McDowell and Rashad are stand outs (Phylicia Rashad can do no wrong anymore in my eyes), wonderful writing and yes, there is a moment near the end that made me want to see it all over again. Profound. Provocative. Visually stunning. I hope Oprah and her OWN network gives this a nice Emmy push come next year, because it could very well be a contender.

Great character development across the board. I feel like I know each character. I hope this show finds its audience. It takes its time and OWN should allow it to do just that.

I have never written a review in my life, but for this show I had to. Every second is golden and if you don't pay attention you will the beauty in the show. If you can, this is a MUST WATCH!

Interesting complex premise partly ruined by inconsistent characters

I did not at first know what to make of the show. Its not a gangster show, its not just a drama, its not just quasi-artistic/metaphysical portrayal of David and others.

Its a quite interesting weave of various genres, quality production and pretty entertaining storyline that draws you into the next episode.

However the biggest complaint for me is the horribly chaotic potrayal of characters. One times theyre like this a moment later theyre completely different and acting totally out of what you saw a moment ago.

Also the jumping in and out of various narratives, abstract moments, symbolysm and metaphores is too often too out of sync and forced. It just doesnt flow and isnt intuitivly comprehensive.

All in all in many ways above average show somewhat ruined by behaviour of characters that too often changes to fit the writer's idea/storyline rather than the other and logical way around.

I gave it 3 episodes, still boring...

I just don't find the story interesting. It's very slow...David does a lot of blank staring, and the camera zooms in on his face way too long.

This show is very unique and the cast is just beautiful. All of the characters are lovable in one way or another and you feel for them as their stories unravel. Seren is my favorite character by far. I'm looking forward to future seasons! 🍿

The first season was epic and quality acting and writing on all accounts. Now the second season is a train wreck. There is just no way to explain the insanity of the direction the show has taken. The time jump was highly unnecessary. David's condition seems to be this on going mission to make naturally intelligent well educated Black dysfunctional. The only Blackmen on television seem to need a hood undertones. Don't understand why they are purposely attempting to cancel this show form within.

Really impressive performances and very important themes make this series a sometimes wrenching yet crucial exploration of the alienated psyche in the present USA. This show could not have been made and distributed before today, sadly, because of biases even if it was always very needed. The only downside are the predictable echoes of David's frequent time traveling. But it does give a modicum of that sci-fi edge that current black cinema is expanding upon as it reinterprets that vision in a speculative way.

Cant believe neg Reviews , Some people have slammed this show saying how bad it is if you did not like it TOUGH!! . I grew up in a community similar to this and my parents took us out .I can relate to a lot of the story line so far wish i had watched it sooner great writing and the soundtrack is also amazing I found as well when each actor says their parts they speak clearly and not drowned out with the background music.
