I Am Digging It!
BrokenContender9 February 2022
Despite being somewhat on the fence with the first episode, I found myself getting more and more excited for the release of the second. That one ended in great fashion and with the fall of the third episode I believe I am finally hooked! These episodes kind of bounce up and down with interest but they seem to be consistently sticking the landing, which is just great! And this latest episode is no exception. Dark perhaps, but that's good! Life is dark! The beautiful esthetics balance it! LOVE this period. LOVE this Titans of Industry story line. Each episode is improving on the last, and so I am very pleased to see this show heading in the right direction! Keep it up! I hope to see this one go the distance!

Getting hooked in.
jp-20611 February 2022
With this episode I'm all about the Russells. I want to know everything they're up to, what they're capable of, and I love their attitude. Both actors seem to be settling into their roles. I still think George needs a shave but the black beard serves its purpose.

Louisa Jacobson is still the weakest link of the main cast and is quite distracting. There is something very Schmigadoon about her performance. The cinematography is still too crisp and clean (they really need to switch to film) and the CGI too poor to be believable but I'm willing to look beyond this if the Russells are going to continue to do their thing.

Some of the storylines seemed a bit forced, but the railroad bit and the overall fight of new money and old money, that I can get behind.

Power couples are awesome.

Well that went dark

I don't want to put any spoilers in my review. If you have been a little bored with the first two episodes, as I have been, let me predict that you will not be bored with episode three. This episode brought the drama! I am glad to see some of the characters' darker sides emerging because it makes the show interesting.

As usual, the costumes, lighting, decor, and cinematography were flawless. I love how sumptuous the rooms all are. It's a treat for my eyes.

Oscar is on screen a fair amount of the time and he's fabulous!

I want to like Marian but I just don't think she's natural. She seems very stiff and her dialogue feels forced.

The young kitchen help guy has a cringy over the top New Yaawwk accent. He takes the young Irish maid on a date to the magic lantern show and repeatedly tries to touch her even though she keeps telling him no. That was very unpleasant to watch and I wish that whole subplot was edited out.

Now We're Rolling!

I agree with the other reviewers that suddenly this drama springs into action. The lesson is, "Don't cross the Russels." Once that fundraising event embarrasses the old guard, anything goes. Lives are ruined and a dramatic finish shows what happens when there are men with no compassion. It's all business. The young black writer encounters forces that we all knew she would. Also, the heroin (whom I just don't care about because she is about as dull as broken ice pick) begins to move toward a romantic relationship.

Brought to their knees...

So far so good, three episodes in and the series is as promised. The writing and cinematography are both excellent, very similar to Downton. The production and sets have been good, the Russell household has some spectacular rooms, very period. The standout is the cast, every character has been cast well, all the actors have been excellent. Carrie Coon and Morgan Spector have great chemistry, but the standout is Louisa Jacobson. Why has it taken so long for her to star in something, she is absolutely fantastic, radiant.

Good episode with a dramatic finish, although the ease at how the episode got to its conclusion felt a little cheap. Not a major knock, still great television. Looking forward to more from this series.

Shocking

I enjoyed this episode as much as the previous ones. In this episode, Ada Brooks meets an old acquaintance/admirer. A scheming Oscar plans to court Gladys Russell, much to the annoyance of his lover John Adams. The Christian Advocate wants to publish Peggy Scott's story, but with racist conditions. Marian secretly meets Raikes again. George is betrayed by his fellow businessmen, and he unleashes his fury.

This episode is very interesting. I'm so loving Agnes more and her witty dialogues, and how she protects her naive sister. Also interesting to see the Statue of Liberty's hand before it was assembled. I didn't know those things. But the stars of this episode are, again, the Russells. George is definitely a force to be reckoned with. It's so satisfying to see those two-faced high society men getting what they deserved tho, although I do feel a little pity for Mr. Morris. The episode ends with a bang.

WOW! WELL PLAYED!

THIS, LIKE ALL THE EPISODES THUS FAR, HAS BEEN EXCITING AND WELL PUT TOGETHER. THE PRODUCTION IS MAGNIFICENT AND BRILLIANT.

I COULD NOT HELP BUT BE TORN BY ROOTING FOR THE UNDERDOG ON THE ONE HAND; AND HOPING THAT MERCY BE BESTOWED ON THE PITIFUL SCOUNDRELS ON THE OTHER. THIS PLOT WAS ENGAGING AND INTRIGUING TO WATCH UNFOLD...AND WELL PLAYED.

IT WAS AS IF WATCHING AN INTERNATIONAL CHESS TOURNAMENT FINALE WHEN KASPAROV ESCAPES AND COUNTERS. BRAVO!

So far so good

Show itself, I have nothing bad to say about.

But, humans I will never understand. Past times, modern times.... doesn't matter.

Why were/are humans so narrow minded and following some dumb rules. I will never understand that.

And then people speak about freedom. Lel.
