Cute movie made better by the presence of Vanessa Redgrave
ranwulfs14 December 2021
A sweet little film full of likeable characters. It was about as realistic as a Hallmark movie, but not half as schmaltzy. The two lead actors weren't anyone I've heard of, but I like that sometimes: to encounter characters that haven't been filtered through some famous person's ego. Not that this was exactly high drama, mind you, but a pleasant way to waste 2 hours. Vanessa Redgrave's role was minor, but she classes up anything she's in.

Predictable but charming
pauldudleylewis-6845831 July 2021
There are no surprises in this story of a grieving young American woman on a visit to Ireland and a Hollywood star who fall in love and find their true selves. Rose Reid and Jedidiah Goodacre make a charming couple and the beautiful Irish countryside and medieval town of Carlingford more than make up for the plot's shortcomings.

One of my favorites for 2021
calypsokidd31 May 2021
Finding You is an entertaining romantic drama. It stars Rose Reid as the adorable Finley Sinclair, a violinist who is focused on being accepted to the Manhattan Conservatory of Music. After a failed audition she and her mother decide that spending a semester in Ireland may help her (as it did her older brother several years earlier). While in Ireland she becomes entangled in distractions such as a relationship with a world-famous actor, dealing with a cranky old lady who is living out her last few months in a care home, and searching for a cross in a cemetery which her brother had drawn for her for some mysterious reason. These distractions, however, all end up helping her in achieving her goal and more.

I have heard some criticism of this film for having too many plotlines but life itself often has more than one plotline going on at the same time does it not? As long as the story lines coexist together smoothly and without any holes, as they do exceptionally well in this case, I see no reason to find this as a fault. For a two-hour film it never drags on or leaves the viewer asking how much longer it will go on.

Finding You is a lovely and uplifting film that I highly recommend!

A fine romance
jonbower19 May 2021
In spite of the lifeless title and the stiff start, I enjoyed Finding You. The beautiful scenery and the predictable plot twists kept a smile on my face, and its an easy movie to share with a wife or a date. The fact that the female lead has a normal body and the most sympathetic character in the movie is well over 80 add some positive, and unusual, normalcy to the young beauty on the screen.

A Rare date film
keithblythe414 May 2021
Don't mind what you here. Finding You. Is a RARE date film. Something that's difficult to find these days. In a market filled with Special Effects and children's animation. Finding You is refreshing. Get some popcorn your favorite drink or someone. Then make a night of it.

No chemistry between the casts
ilovefoodcoma15 May 2021
The story is not so interesting. The both main characters didn't seem have great chemistry. Their physical appearance didn't really that match either. It is hard to picture them as a couple. However, the locations/views are gorgeous.

I'm a guy and I'm not into romance movies
stklaus2 September 2021
(unless they are really good, like Roman Holiday). So at the first 10min of this movie I was like "Uugh" another BS teenie romance; also I didn't like the 2 protagonists.

But then I kept watching and the film changed my mind. Simply because the story is good. It's basically a romance, but with many subplots and each of them is interesting and woven into the love story, so that the success of each little story depends on the main plot. That is so obvious that it's kind of a new take.

The movie certainly is aimed at younger audiences, so if you are a girl or into romance or just wanna relax or maybe watch a movie where you can turn off your brain for a while (I'm not saying it's a stupid movie), then give it a shot, for that I would recommend it.

(The real rating would be 7/10, but since the movie is underrated and quite entertaining I gave it a 8.)

Fun Movie- not quite enthralling
vyghxqypc11 December 2021
The story is good, The scenery in Ireland is stunning; however, the film feels a bit too safe and cookie cutter.

Finley and Beckett are from two different worlds and the universe pushes them together as if fate is telling the us(the viewers) they need to be with each other to grow in their lives. Growth inevitably occurs throughout the film for both and it's a feel good story with a few heart wrenching moments- add in that the Emerald Isle is gorgeous and you have a film you'll want to finish. It's just a film you could always get to later. There's no urgency in finding out what happens because you can probably guess!

Low quality
srgymrat3315 January 2023
It was feel good , the main characters were both good looking , you are curious to know what happens at the end and you leave feeling good and entertained .many of the characters were endearing and you want things to work out .

The truth is though it's just low quality - the acting is very amateur, the writing is not very good , it's painfully cheesy in parts , the plot can be downright silly in a lot of it and there is basically no cinematic value . The main male character is almost annoying at times and the chemistry between them feels a little forced .

It's a low budget rom-com - go in knowing what you are going to get .

Beautiful charming film. Characters with scruples
zettelouise17 January 2022
Beautiful, well done, engaging film. Refreshing to see characters with scruples who learn lessons about others. Appears to be accurate representation of overbearing parents out to make money on their child's career. On point depiction of young girls crazed by teen idol movie actor and the social media craze associated with it.

A good lesson in how not to judge another person's character.

Beautiful scenery. I thought the chemistry between the two main characters was good. Enjoyed seeing Vanessa Redgrave as a cantankerous old lady.

I really enjoyed the film and highly recommend it.

Nice movie.

Warning: Spoilers
I liked the movie but the subplot with Beckett could have been left out. It gave nothing to the movie. It she was going to have a love interest. It should have been a local boy.

Absolute rubbish
denisdennehy54310 July 2021
Had to leave a review as I can't understand how this was rated over 6 and I don't believe the higher scores some people are leaving.

Clichéd nonsense, insulting to the quality and energy of Irish folk music, terrible acting. We were too lazy to turn over but we were fast forwarding through the musical interludes to try and get through it.

2 stars for the Irish scenery.

One for the family
AfricanBro4 August 2021
I was astonished, it's not a great movie though somewhat charming. It's a teen romance, but what surprised me is the religious aspect. It's the only Christian movie I've watched that doesn't constantly shove bible verses and Jesus' name down your throat for the entire duration just to send a message. This movie does that using only one scene, a small quote, less than a minute. And I saw one review that missed it.

After years spent at Christian school where we were made to watch a bunch of Christian movies, I must say this is the least annoying, and you don't have to be religious in any way to enjoy it.

I did find the acting and dialogue trite or needless at times especially in the beginning, but it's an okay movie as a whole. It's a bit run of the mill, mediocre but it's just about interesting enough for a watch.

If you have a family like mine were it gets awkward during sex scenes, cussing and all with the parents, here's a movie you could watch. Or your kids, I didn't think of that lol.

Delightful
jsw-242-87794924 July 2021
Of course any feel good film is a bit smaltzy but this left a smile on my face and warmth in my heart. Rose Reid and Sairoise-Monica Jackson are superb. Wonderful views of Ireland too. A good side story with Vanessa Redgrave tho perhaps it was the main story. I'm sure the portrayal of film stars is a little shallow.

Basically a Hallmark movie
FeatherlessBiped14 January 2024
If you like simple cheesy romantic films, you might like this one too; otherwise, I don't recommend it.

We chose to watch it because it sounded like a typical romantic drama in the Irish countryside, with all the lovely scenery that accompanies that setting. Plus, we saw a couple of well-known names in the cast: Tom Everett Scott and Vanessa Redgrave. We hoped that would attest to the quality of the production.

But we didn't realize it would be like a (slightly) glorified Hallmark movie. Unrealistic acting, goofy plotline, actors who look way too old for the parts they are playing.

There was indeed some pretty scenery. But there wasn't much else.

Set in Ireland but even that didn't hold my attention in this 2 hour film.
Avidviewer-0284727 July 2021
A two hour film has to have a lot to keep my attention and this film didn't do it. Ireland is beautiful and was really a character of its own in the film. The script seemed to lose focus and just dragged on and on especially in the middle, I found myself checking the time.

The great Vanessa Redgrave as Mrs Sweeney was excellent as always and there were some very good Irish supporting actors throughout. The two leads weren't that good overall, in some scenes they did better than others but weren't natural actors. I didn't detect any spark of chemistry between them.

With a better script and better leads this would have been a much better film.

Syrupy sweet and cliched
evakent18 June 2022
Syrupy sweet inordinately cliched whingeing pablum. I wonder if even teens would find this fluff appealing. Oh, and with the requisite amount of cloying overcuteness. Everything always happens for a reason, and you're never alone. Please spare me. Not one character seems to have an iota of meanness in his/her/their being. Not one raw edge.

Real people acting in realistic ways
donmccandless-863209 October 2021
We need more movies like this one, and far less of all the negative 'whoopie, we're all terrible people, so let's all get killed' junk Hollywood is so fond of these days. I read many of the negative reviews before I watched this film, one the entire family could enjoy, and that's what moved this movie to the top of my 'watch this next' list. Glad I did. Well written, acted, directed, and with an outstanding soundtrack.

No token characters, so if you're expecting to find an LGBT character, or a minority where one wouldn't normally expect one to be present, or a car chase, explosion, shoot-out, bad cops, or any of the other Hollywood tropes we're seeing elsewhere, or anything else coming off the assembly line.

This is a fine mix of established veteran actors and new young fresh faces presenting a story that has a great deal of depth. If you don't come away feeling good about the world after this one, go find yourself a mental health expert. You're clinically depressed, and in need of help.

More of this, please.

Nothing to see here
oldmovies118514 May 2021
Weak dialogue, cut and paste plot, unbelievable characters and bland acting make this movie too good for The Hallmark Channel much less a theater. I've seen better high school plays. 3 stars for the scenery.

Uplifting romance film
lorraine-benn14 May 2021
Finley, a violinist from the US, goes to Ireland to attend a college and hopefully pass an exam. She meets Becket, a famous film star on the plane to Ireland. By coincidence, they meet up again as Becket happens to be staying at the same accommodation as Finley. There are some wonderful scenes of Ireland, fairly rare in romantic movies, and joyful pub entertainment scenes with an Irish fiddle player. With Vanessa Redgrave as an elderly woman in a nursing home, there is much to like about this film.
