Now this is True Halo,!!!
palkimani21 April 2022
I was about to give up on this series but after watching this Episode, I think I Might change my Mind. The CGI was Amazing, The fight scenes were well choreographed, I mean this is the best episode so far... I hope They don't slow down again.

"Cortana ... I need you to do me a favour ... stop talking!"
bosporan21 April 2022
Another fabulous performance from Kate Kennedy portraying Kai-125 with her emergent emotions causing her to question Master Chief (Pablo Schreiber). He is having his own struggle with pill removal following the revelations on his homeworld.

An enjoyable fight scene, despite some wonky CGI, more of this type of action is required going forward. Soren-066's journey with Kwan has become a redundant sideshow, hopefully this will be effectively integrated soon. A creative and unexpected ending sets up some intriguing potential plotlines.

An entertaining episode, a clear favourite so far.

Improvement but still too much of what we do not care about
namob-4367321 April 2022
Still too many "intrigues" and political wrangling which feels out of place and is not sold good enough because the actors can't. Still too much of that side quest with the asian girl not a single person in the galaxy care about. And still too much of trying to build a backstory which is not necessary.

And up until the end it was too little of war... but we got some of that.

With those objections out of the way this was still an excellent episode which actually moved the plot forward, and I got the feeling that this 4 episode transport to where we want to go is almost over. We finally also got some action, and with this excellent CGi and great visuals the show is showing its true colours.

Still a bit to go, but this was a step up. 8/10.

Best one yet!
hamskillen21 April 2022
This series just keeps getting better. After 3 episodes of set up. This episode is one massive battle. The effects were great, the action was exquisite and choreographed really well. This episode was just so badass and puts more gas into the tank for this series.

The 10 reviews are only because we have been starved of action until now
mluinstra24 April 2022
Yes, this was the best episode so far but definitely not a 10/10. Most of this episode was the same old stuff we got the previous 4 episodes.

Please kill Kwan or whatever her name is. Why is she even in this show? I have zero interest in her character and she eats up valuable screen time for no reason what so ever.

The action scene at the end of this episode is what we all want. It was awesome. Let's have more of that and less of the talky talk crap.

I think the overall story of the artifacts is good and this show can be salvaged if they give us more action.

Only time will tell.

I knew this would be a good one!
johnrussellnunley21 April 2022
Look what happens when you have less Kwan-ha and more Master Chief! You get a good episode!

When I saw John Liebesman was the director I knew this one would be good!

He directed a movie that critics trashed but I absolutely loved called Battle LA.

It's Black Hawk Down with Aliens and I thought it was rad! So I knew this one would finally have some action and it didn't disappoint!

Good news is John directs 3 of the next 4 episodes!

Fantastic Episode!
valdemir-fernandes21 April 2022
The best one up to now. Halo will be a great success. Maybe because Steven Spielberg has been involved with the series.

This is real sci-fi and action which is unfortunately missing in the Star Trek spinoffs, with too much blah-blah.

Akiva Goldsman. Learn something with Halo. Since Akiva joined the Star Fleet all the series have been a mess and not honoring the STOS.

Goosebump with this episode!
thuanviproi21 April 2022
I rated this 10/10 but lost 1 point to KWAN HA, an annoying character. The show is going on it way. The show is Halo but you just watch and do not stick it with the game.

Best episode so far
kinodavai21 April 2022
After the fourth episode, I was a little depressed. At that time, the series had too little action. Master Chief just destroys everyone! Pablo Schreiber is great, although growling is Wolverine's business.

I want to believe that the series will continue to get even better. But so far, this episode is already the best thing that has been done on Halo for many, many years for TV screens.

Fun-Intense Climatic Battle Saves Episode 5
bbevis-4795422 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The action sequence was awesome. Master Cheeks smashing the elites face in and going full rage mode to save Kai made me feel all giddy inside. The brute showing up at the end makes me yearn to see Chief face off with him sometime this season.

Chief finally learning the truth about his past and almost rage punching Halsey in the face was epic. The dysfunctional family dynamic with Jacob, Miranda and Halsey is somewhat interesting. Loved the brief banter with Cortana and Chief after his conversation with Kai before the battle.

Unfortunately, we also have several minutes of the episode dedicated to the Soren and Kwan subplot. The slow-moving and uninteresting plot thread really needs to justify its existence.

Overall, Reckoning was a solid episode, conveying the potential for Halo as a T. V. series while tripping over itself with unnecessary subplots at the same time.

Maybe now, the people who just think Halo is a shoot 'em up will be happy!
zornzk21 April 2022
Halo as a show is amazing! So far, every episode has been telling an amazing (though alternate) story taking elements from the games, as well as the books, and merging those with original takes on the Halo universe. This episode delivers an amazing blend of continuing that story with the action that so many negative reviewers have been waiting for. This is likely to be the highest rated episode of the series so far, and for good reason!

Put your helmet on
stevenkoenig-1604021 April 2022
Why does he never have his helmet on? Why is Kwan even in the show? Why can't someone just kill her character she is so annoying? Why am I still watching?

Something finally happened!
FestusNord21 April 2022
After falling asleep during the last 2 episodes, it was nice to make it through one. Maybe it's the product of lowered expectations but, if the show takes off from here and keeps up the pace set in the second half of this episode, I might start enjoying it.

Perfectly realized Covenant forces. Everything else, mediocre...
OneTwoPunch21 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This show's writing and dialogue is still as rough as ever, even without considering it as an adaptation of Halo's world (books/games). Which it strays further from in spirit with each passing episode.

Look, I know it's low hanging fruit and an easy thing to harp on... but Chief uncharacteristically removes his helmet in at least two extremely dangerous situations including an active battlefield. He takes it of... puts it on... takes it off... At this point the show seems to be doing it purely out of spite. Even the relentless Iron Man style in-helmet facecam reactions feel a tad excessive. Let the man's mannerisms and body language express some things for once! Pablo's a great actor, he can easily pull that off.

The alien species all looked incredible. Absolutely nailed it for each and every one of them. Action was good for the most part. A little on the nose regarding its videogame origins in places. Bordering on parody in others. Halo: Landfall and other live action marketing hold a very high bar to clear. This battle felt more like popcorn "TV action" in terms of its camerawork and choreography, but I'll take that as an improvement over what the show has offered so far!

When Kai is having her big traumatic moment, it's supposed to be deadly serious... but something about either the way it was shot, acted out, or all the obviously fake blood reminded me of Starship Troopers. (Which is why I said borderline parody.) Or maybe it's because the marines are literally wearing reused Starship Trooper gear. For whatever reason, I found that scene to be, well, kind of silly.

Same for Cortana neurologically shutting down John (ugh) during his incredibly hammy punch. That scene (pardon me for saying this) just didn't land. It was so hokey. (Also, wouldn't momentum have sent his dead weight crashing into Halsey regardless?)

Edit: I honestly couldn't tell you what the music during the battle was like. Writing this review, I genuinely can't remember...

Best episode so far
iliic21 April 2022
I agree that this is the best episode so far.

Just wanted to say a little bit in defence of the other episodes.

They felt maybe slower, definitely less action packed but I still feel they were very good paced and allowed me to learn more about the characters and world (I've never played or read anything about Halo before).

I wish I know more about what the artifacts are for and why Chief can interact with them - hope these will be answered this season.

For someone like me who don't have a clue what is happening yet I think this show is really good.

Kai'a storyline is good. And at least no Kwan Ha in episode.

Keep on stretching out the plot...
sumtim3s00n21 April 2022
Too much constant focus on childhood, way too much annoying stupid-haircut-girl, nonstop unnecessary helmet removal instead of using the actor's abilities, too much boring relationship/emotions stuff instead of Halo canon plot matter all of which even more downgrades the horribly stretched out and thin plot.

Peaky Blinders, Sopranos or I dunno, Justified, had in ONE episode as much happening and "meat" as this show has in 3 or 4.

These writers are only capable of writing cookie cutter generic scripts, might as well use a computer script generator and fill the blanks, and are destroying the solid and with lots of potential Halo franchise foundations.

Bottom line, ruining the Halo's good name one episode at a time and more than half of these 10/10 reviews just looking at the syntax, format, used words etc.. are ridicously clearly fake.

An incredible episode in a series with grand ambitions
Ianoys773522 April 2022
I think people sometimes forget how rare it is to get something on the scale of Halo on regular TV. Building such a vast universe takes dedication and investment, but it's not without it's rewards.

And rewarded we are in this episode. The last 15 minutes of episode 5 are some of the most intense moments you'll see on television - putting it up there in the realm of The Expanse and Vikings. Grunts, Jackals, Spartans, and marines all duke it out in a convincingly vicious battle for their lives across a wide-spanning battlefield.

And just when you think the action may be close to an end, we are treated with an unexpected but more than welcome surprise which I won't spoil here. Needless to say, it does it's job of upping the stakes and setting up anticipation for the future.

Scrutinize things too closely and you may be able to glean some slightly janky CGI or filming tricks. But nitpicking such a grand performance on the small screen that you'd never notice on 1st watch does disservice only to yourself. Sometimes you just have to sit back and enjoy Halo realized in live-action in such a glorious way.

I don't expect episode 6 to be as good as 5. But Halo's ambitions are clear and the show has convinced me to enlist for the entire season, eagerly anticipating what it has in store for the season finale.

Epic fight scene!!!
18Buddha26 April 2022
The final battle of this episode was Epic! Legit it had me so glued to the screen and this joy overcame me with each second into it, kinda felt like when i watched the big climactic battle in Avengers Infinity war almost. Though it wasnt as big as Avengers battle scene but i think its just the happy sensation of a video game adaptation finally doing justice in the battles/Fight scenes.

The action was amazing! Also not much of that terrible character/actress Kwan Ha to ruin things.

All in all this was thee best episode.

finally some action!
Lythas_8522 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Dude, just focus on master chief, his sister and artifact stuff errr.. I guess everybody already knows short blondie is his sister, right?

Just like everybody knew the insecure doctor was the child of captain and californication doctor, yes?

It was already hinted in episode 1 or 2... when dad said something about her mother running the lab or something like this... the flashback scene from last episode was unnecessary

and yeah.. what was the purpose of the rebel girl again? It does not like to master chiefs storyline.. .at all.

Only giving this episodes a 9 because we get some action again!
luis_rosales19842 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
So while in the game it was only really ever hinted at in the games and more talked about in Dr. Katherine Halsey's diary, available when special edition purchases of the game were bought, The opening scene starts with a glimpse of a married Captain keys and Dr. Halsey looking at a daycare facility with John saving a fellow student. This episode of the last both hint at something the first Halo game established throughout the entire series, The thing that made John special from every other Spartan in the program. Luck. John always had luck on his side. And it's opening scene also hints at it. While it may seem the boy who needed rescuing was the lucky one, it was actually John and his luck that helped pull the boy the safety. Just as in the Lassing John kept on guessing which side the coin Woodfall luck has always been an important part of the chief story.

Again we see Cortana and John's relationship not being quite what it should be. From the story in Oregon standpoint this makes sense since they will have to bond and forge an unbreakable partnership together in order to take on the incoming threat, not the Covent... but the Flood.

And for the un time we see chief go completely out of character, crazy even and attacked Dr. Halsey. One of the human beings he values the most the lore. But all of that is quickly forgotten when a covenant ship drops out of slip space it begins attacking with all alien forces. There are Jackals, Grunts, Elites and even a Brute appears with a Gravity Hammer!!! And vehicles!!! Everything but a ghost was there! There were Banshees, Phantoms, and a Spirit; I was so extremely excited to watch this battle unfold. The chief kid jumped onto a banshee I was hoping to see the signature move of kicking the pilot out and taking over the vehicle. Although logistically that may have been too much to pull off for the shell. Still it was one hell of a battle and great to see all the Spartans in action.

Although Kai was sidelined by Chief once he found out her inhibitor was removed she quickly jumped into action and began protecting the Marines to the best of her ability. Though it may prove to be too much for her as she was overcome by the intensity of the battle. Although chief did relatively fine minus some anger issues poor Kai took quite a beating. But not as bad as a beating as the Elite took from Chief when he came to her rescue!

We even hear Miranda say "Join The Fight!" A nice little Easter egg for the show. To be honest I feel like this show SHOULD BE one huge Easter EGG. Maybe the should of hired Kevin Feige as a consultant on how to properly move from one media to another SUCCESS-FUL-LY.

Finally heading into Halo lore
gardianx21 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode has finally gone into the direction of Halo lore but there are very obvious weaknessess. The battle was the strong point and chiefs revelation of his past and the betrayal of all the people he had trusted was good. Even now Cortana has shown the capability to shut down Master Chief and the little amount of trust being built was destroyed. Now to the bad part Kwan Ha her freaking storyline is dumb I don't know why the writers wants the viewers to like her so much the writing for her is abysmal. She somehow out smarted a spartan and knocked him out which is not great as spartans are augmented with enhance muscles and skeleton and at this point I don't mind that she is written out and that planet gets glassed by the Covenant Armada. This episode is basically fan service saying hey we know this is halo here are the key things you wanted all season.

Finally something happens, but...
detlic21 April 2022
It took them 4 episodes to finally have some action at the end of this one. Not great, but decent action... However, most of episode is again - uneventful dwelling on the things established in previous episodes. More empty talking, more of the same, nothing happens... Then you get split-second changes of mind for no apparent reason... Then some action that is typically Hollywoke. And nothing again!

Total disappointment!
