Solid season, average ending...
aarongnr22 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I really liked the this first season overall, especially because I could relate to some of the stuff they tried to adress.

But I dont get why they chose this ending, I mean he stole the trophy for Maeve, just to then make out with Ola a few hours later? But thats not all, they also made Maeve catching them soooo incredibly predictable. In my opinion they shouldve done one of two things: 1) Otis gives the trophy to Maeve and the season ends or a good note OR 2) Otis does not steal the trophy, but Maeve still makes up her mind about her feelings and then catches Otis and Ola making out (which wouldve been better than this in my opinion)

But overall good job.

Season One Review
southdavid30 January 2019
Despite not being quite the target audience, I felt that "Sex Education's" first season was a humorous and witty triumph.

Otis (Asa Butterfield) is a 16 year old boy whose mother (Gillian Anderson) is a practicing sex therapist. When he uses the therapist skills he's acquired over the years to defuse a situation at school, Maeve (Emma Mackay) whom Otis has a crush on, spies an opportunity to use his skills to provide sex therapy sessions to his fellow students for financial gain.

The first thing that needs to be said, "Sex Education" is not set in any recognisable world that you could visit. It's ostensibly in the UK, based on the accents of the cast. The school that all the kids go to though is steeped in American traditions and tropes that we don't do in this country. Lockers, Letter Jackets, themed dances, sporting events that people attend - we don't do any of that. The time period of it is also a little difficult to pin down. They have smart phones and fitbits, but the cars are pretty much entirely from the 80's/90's and the fashions and interior design from even earlier. I'm not saying this is a criticism, it's a bit jarring at first but you do soon get used to it, and it even makes things better given the quality music that the show makes use of. It makes for a unique looking show at least.

It's a well written and witty show, on the whole (though not entirely) avoiding the clichés of teen drama but despite how funny it is - it does delve into some deeper dramatic themes too. I was struck on how invested I felt in the central love triangle (rectangle?) that makes up the overriding story for most of the season and I think that's down to the actors involved in it.

For once, a short series doesn't feel like enough and I'm looking forward to more. I hope that Gillian Anderson and Asa Butterfield's schedules will allow it.

The end could've been better
sauravjoshi8522 December 2019
The last episode had lots of hope with a stupendous start but the end of the series will disappoint you.

There is been lots of unanswered questions which needed to be answered.

Look forward to next season.

Too many loose ends and unresolved problems. Maeve and Adam especially have horrible endings.

Warning: Spoilers
Everything is fine until first 40mins of episode but final 10mins collapsed all. Really I feel disappointed for Mave . Ola spoils everything . I thought Mave and Otis will enter relationship but it was messed up. Adam Groof scenes will be very heart touching.

Overall this SEASON 1 is good to watch . Go ahead !

Heartbroken 💔
akashmng1 July 2021
Season 1 ending could've been better in my opinion. I was heartbroken for Maeve. A final kiss between Otis and Maeve would be so satisfying.

Maeve lost my sympathy
pavlomatnenko15 July 2019
Actually, I lost sympathy to Maeve, and rather Otis stayed with Ola. Don't understand why Maeve decided not to ruin Adam's life, but Otis is ok for her..

As always good
amindostiari27 May 2021
One thing I like about this series, is that when you think everything is going to be okay, In fact everything goes wrong. It was the last episode of the first season and it was as good as ever. We will see what season two is like.

Otis v. Hendricks
ehage-9464618 December 2021
When watching this show, and in particular this episode, I focused on the curriculum of Otis's sex education. This episode contrasts Otis's curricular approach with that of his teacher, Mr. Hendricks. Whereas Otis shapes his lessons to fit his 'students' life experiences, Mr. Hendricks sticks to standard assignments. The contrast of the two characters is subtle and well done. It gets the message across that sex education as Mr. Hendricks teaches it, and as it is often taught in schools, in not working because its presentation of the subject matter is so far removed from the issues that students actually face.

Season one was a train wreck
DrDumb20 April 2024
What can I say? The plot was boring and messy. Season one is about the love stories about several teenagers. You can also see some family issues too, and some friendship. "Sex therapy/Sex education" never is the main topic throughout the entire season, just a couple of scenes. Some quotes were great but very old school. I could feel the same way but I couldn't reflect on them. The background music was too much and too loud, I would hear a music in every 2 minutes and sometimes it didn't fit a scene at all: a scene should give you a sad feeling but the much was upbeat. The editing was bad too, one moment I was about to go emotional then suddenly it wanted to make you happy. Could have put all the emotional moments in the end so I could feel for the characters. Amiee Lou Wood was awesome, I might not watch it if she left the show. I was told by some others to watch because it was good but I don't think it was good at all. I'll see how season 2 goes.
