What was the picture on dad's phone of?
glyounger7 May 2022
The rating says more than what I could but since there's a 150 word minimum I'll write: one of the memorable scenes for me is when the pastor (who just happens to apologize for being late) talked about Sylvia sending money home & it cuts to her children & a solid 🎭 beat is carried out to the T. Well done.

With that out of the way I just really wanted to write/ask: what in the world is that airdropped photo of? Anyone?

Thank you Team Atlanta. Thank you.

Another Great Episode
tarnika_wilcher30 April 2022
I love how Donald Glover includes these episodes that appear random however they show how different cultures interact with and impose on each other. How the Anglo culture appears to be so civilized but how each culture impacts another.

Just like Earn and the others are in Europe on the Paper Boi tour and how the various cultures interact with them. No one is an island. We all influence each other.

A Different Perspective
unclehud2 May 2022
Interesting to see these independent episodes about white culture. All the more interesting because I presume they are written, directed, and produced by Black people.

The FX tagline "Fearless" is appropriate for all of these episodes. Keep on rollin', ATL crew!

Exemplary episode
virgonoshaka2 May 2022
What Donald Glover did for this episode is making me feel very grateful right now.

As per usual I write a review right after watching the show, so I apologize in advance for any lack of structure due to my emotions.

This episode follows a classic family of 3 : the mom, the dad and the son. They get a phone call : their nany just died.

Do they tell their son ? Do they bring him to her funeral ? Does the funeral end up being a glorious mess ? Is the cringe so real you can touch it ? Well I guess you'll just have to watch "Trini to da none" to know.

I can understand this show being so controversial that it gets bombed by 1star votes, but people who review this episode as boring or void puzzle me the most.

I guess some people can't really appreciate the depth of understanding and feeling in this show. I'm truly thankful for Atlanta, because at last we have some accuracy and nuance about how black and white people behave amongst themselves and each other.

This show explores with bold intelligence and every day simple truths a lot of interesting biaises.

I particularly enjoyed this S02E07 because of how masterfully all this was encapsulated in the black MC saying "STOP IT ! We're scaring the white people away !!" and the camera cuts to the white family frozen in their tracks and the dad like "amm... no... we just.. have to go" so funny and brilliant.

Sweet Sweet T and T.

Warning: Spoilers
This episode was such a pretty and poetic episode. This whole season even though people have been divided on weather it is good or bad I think that really does boil down to race.

This episode shines a light on so many women in Sylvia's position who sacrifice so much to provide for their children. Imagine raising someone else's child just to be able to support your own man this episode hit me right in the heart.

The absence of love in Bash's parents really was evident throughout the episode. When the wife is on a call you can see she has saved her husbands name as his full name like some kinda DMV.

Sylvia was the only love and culture that kid got and the photo reel at the end really hammers that point home.

an entertaining "ok"
Heibbi24 August 2022
I know "Atlanta" often depicts white people cliches in a cynical and exaggerated way but i kind of rolled my eyes during a few moments in this episode. The dad who cant handle spicey food and him being scared in a black neighbourhood for example. I liked the tension and the mystery aspects more than the political commentary. Although in the end it once again tried to be deeper than it actually was. What was the Cat A***hole Picture that someone airdropped to the dads phone suppose to mean? I bet some gambino fans already have artsy explanations for it. As soon as i realized that this was an filler episode, i dropped my expectations. Maybe thats why i liked this one more than the last.

Wise, man.
Sproketer29 April 2022
I loved this episode. It moved me. The little boy was beautiful. It was all beautiful. It brought big tears to my eyes. I'm still wiping them as I type. In the 1920s and 30s my mom was taken care of by a woman she loved. She was not her mother. She related to me the love she gave to her. I saw the same love in the little boy's face.

They do not fit.
kcskoul19 May 2022
I love those episodes, they are exceptional but I believe that they should not be on this show. Most people want to see Earn, Al and Darius and generally their story. We get few new episodes of Atlanta and we want to see the story of the main characters. I think these episodes would get much more recognition if they where in a different, independent, series.

Bash and his connection with Sylvia was powerful. Hope his parents can connect with him like Sylvia did. Beautiful episode, wonderfully shot by Glover.

Warning: Spoilers
1. Sebastian's family attends a funeral 2. Funeral turns into a mess 3. Miles receives a package of photos

This was an interesting one. Our main cast is absent again. There are definitely a lot more standalone episodes this season. In fact, almost half of it is standalone. While I don't have any harsh feelings about them (I really loved the reparation tax episode), I understand that some people could become frustrated about them because people care about the main cast. Right now it does seem like it's anthology type of a show so the result can feel convoluted.

Despite the structural issues, I thought this episode was still fine. It still maintained a sense of mystery and intrigue while this family was navigating the death of their longtime nanny. The idea of parental neglect across both races is evident as it seems that Sebastian is barely known by his parents but influenced hugely by his late nanny. But the nanny's family felt neglected by her since she was always out working. What a viscous cycle it becomes. I hope that if I ever become a parent, I am in a spot where I can spend much time with my family. There is definitely some racial theme but I don't feel that it was as pronounced in this episode. That being said, I'm not sure if this episode needed to belong in season 3. There was a brief presentation of sort of a discomfort that arises after cultures collide but it felt minor and less thought-provoking like previous episodes. This episode was one of those where you watch and it's hard to articulate the message but you still enjoy it.

Warning: Spoilers
I thought this was a great episode. A little slow, but part of it really made me laugh despite the sad overtone. 'Light Pepper' and the white giy at the funeral who reminded me of collie budz. Glad they didn't make it to the wake cause seeing the food would've made me too hungry.

After Yang
gageboothe9 June 2022
This episode was really similar to After Yang, and After Yang is so much better. I just want this show to go back to how it was. The new season comes across like it's trying so hard and it's not landing.

Another non-Atlanta Episode
mzand-751-53957230 April 2022
If Donald glover wants to do an anthology show instead of Atlanta, then that's what he should do instead of disappearing the cast and characters that we're so fond of in favor of abstract, self indulgent "artistic" notions. It's says something that you can skip every one of these episodes that don't feature the regulars and not miss a thing.

Brilliant
little-wing14 July 2022
These were some of the best 30 minutes of television I have ever seen. Never has the disconnect from life itself in white culture been shown more clearly than here. I don't even live in the US, but white people grow up very similar to young Bash over here in Europe.

The parents tried so hard to do good or "the right thing" that they completely miss what was going on in the life of their son. They are incapable of being honest and direct about their feelings. And still they are not the bad guys. They just never learned how to be human from their own parents.

In the Trini wake, the last sentence spoken to the white family is like a gut punch I can still feel many days later.

Yes, I get that people want to spend time with Earn, Van, Darius, and Paper Boi. But by now they should know that the show is non-conventional, not narrative-driven. From time to time, we get these absolute gems packed with heart, fantastic acting, clever writing, and brilliant observation.

This is Such an On Point Social Satire Episode
Go-Between4 May 2022
Living in NYC I often wondered the dynamic between the nannies I'd see of color pushing around strollers of what I'd assume to be wealthy little white kids. It's not indictment on the parents. They are busy professionals that it turns out don't have time to hang out with their kid. So someone like Sylvia was a major part of their lives without them knowing how deeply her influence was on their own son. Clearly the white guilt theme is running rampant here, but it was so funny.

I am wondering if we have a skeleton key thing going here if so that would be amazing. I notice this because of the photos they keep trying to get to the family and the way the faces change in the photos.

Loss
phillyfiredaddy-7417530 April 2022
Everyone handles loss differently. Most are sad. Some are relieved, like I was when my cousin passed. She had been in a horrible automobile accident, many years ago. She loved photography. She loved horses & unicorns. My mom hangs a photo she took of me, as a kid, peaking behind a tree. But, she did not wear her seatbelt and was ejected from the car, hitting a tree. She was in a coma, for quite awhile. I remember visiting her, in the hospital. She had moss growing in her mouth. She awoke & had to go through much therapy. Luckily, her son, who was still in her womb, when the accident, survived. He is a young man now. His mother had moved on from this plane. She is out of pain. Miss you still, cuz.

My brother passing. My father passing. Those are different stories. I still get angry sometimes. But, I did not think of climbing into their caskets. But, everyone is different.

Please don't judge all "white people" the same. Not all of us are born with a silver spoon in our mouths. I tell my children that their mom & dad have worked for everything we have. No one gave us a break. We did have a nanny once. It was my sister in law. But, after our 2nd child was born. She was also wanting to become a mother. So, she ran off and married her now husband. We appreciate her help. But, we didn't even get 2 weeks notice. Lol!

I really do enjoy the show. But, I also want to see more about the main characters.

DC Benny

Warning: Spoilers
You tube DC Benny Showtime At the Apollo. He did a bit that I immediately remembered about hiring black nannys for rich white kids which could be a reference to Chet Hanks. This is speculation so I understand if it's taken down.

These not Atlanta, Atlanta episodes are thought provoking.

Better and better
scarsley10 July 2022
I keep saying this again and again. The show just continually improves each episode.

This again does Glover's vision justice. Written so smartly. And in an episode where we know none of the characters we feel we know everyone.

Richie the parking attendant is going to be a star.

That pepper mango curry looked delish.

Chet hanks accent now makes complete sence.

All children need is love and support, but providing for them will dissminsh your ability to give them that.

boring
wafflz-8346429 April 2022
I enjoyed the first 2 side story episodes, because they were actually eventful and interesting. But this is just an uneventful 30 minutes of nothing. The only good part was the tom hanks son cameo. It feels like a filler episode of the side story episodes if that makes sense.

I used to love Atlanta, but there are so many good TV shows on right now, Atlanta has completely lost my attention.

Pretentious, preachy, wannabe "art" just doesn't do it for me.

terrible
dndadiix5 May 2022
Wtf is wrong with this season. Another episode that has nothing to do with the show. If you haven't watched it you can ship it and wisely save the twenty two minutes. Cant believe the number of positive reviews. Echoing another: if the writers want to do an anthology series, do that, don't start season 3.

Who was that for?
cmconnormclean30 September 2023
This episode was a strange one. Its one of the random episodes where it tells a different story and has nothing to do with the shows plot or characters like Paperboi and Earn.

It follows the story of a deceased nanny and the impact it has on the little boy she looked after and her friends and family.

This episode wasnt particularly interesting or eye opening but rather slow and boring and watching it had me checking to see if I was still watching Atlanta.

This show has done many random episodes but most seem to be creepy or entertaining but this one was a funeral a pretty normal one where im from with grief and blame but still a boring funeral.

This episode was very out of place and uninteresting, it feels like a filler episode and noy even a good one.

I have showed others Atlanta and they dont seem to enjoy it the same as I but this episode had me doubting if I should continue this season and I seem to be one of the few fans of this show and if it was slow and boring for even me, who was it for?

Waste of 30 minutes
jussirantapaa10 June 2022
I love Atlanta and Ive enjoyed most of the episodes that don't follow the main storyline but this episode was just utter garbage. The plot and the delivery were as flat and mediocre as it gets. We don't know these people, we don't know the nanny, why should we care? Yes death is sad and a nanny can be a big part of a children's life but it alone can't support an episode if the characters are meaningless.

If you dont have an extremely deep bond to african culture or nannies you should skip this episode. I believe that this episode holds a special place in the heart of the writer but for an average viewer this episode has absolutely no value.
