Violinist of Hameln (Not Hamelin, "Hameln", without "i") is a comedy fantasy manga with some moments of action, in the same vein of Slayers.
However, for whatever reason, the anime series adaptation turned into a completely serious plot filled with tragedy, disappointing several of the fans from the manga (Not to mention the anime had a somewhat limited animation, forcing to use static images for many scenes)
This anime short is apparently more faithful to the spirit of the source material, having a lot of comedy.
It was entertaining to watch, though it also requires some familiarity with the original comics to understand some stuff and the way the characters interact.
In many ways, it almost feel like a promotional short for the manga than an introduction for newcomers.
Still, I can see this had a lot of potential for a fun anime show, shame the anime decided to aim for a more dramatic tone.
