Inspired by the 2014 murder of Angela Wrightson who was tortured and beaten to death by two girls aged 13 and 14 in Hartlepool England. The girls posted images of their crime on Snapchat and were captured on CCTV which led to their conviction.
Using mobile phones to film themselves, lead actors Rebecca McDiarmid and Brodie Young improvised all their scenes without any script or set dialogue.
Lawyers representing the real girls upon which 'Like' is based launched a high court injunction against the film and general media to prevent their identities being revealed. Evidence submitted to the court included newspaper articles about the film and images of the actors. However the true identities of the girls are never actually revealed within the context of the film.
