A superb (and superbly moving) performance by the "Vox Luminis" ensemble, which specializes in Renaissance and Baroque music, mainly of a religious or contemplative nature. The name of the ensemble means "the voice of light" - and indeed, their music does have a shining, transcendent, luminous quality to it. Every viewer - or listener - will be sure to pick his or her favorites ; I was most impressed by Purcell's "Funeral Sentences", which achieved both great clarity and great sadness. The music rose to the heavens like incense...
The ensemble sings in a beautiful old church, which contributes greatly to the otherworldly feel of the whole.
Listen to it, watch it : it comes perilously close to perfection.
