Cohen's Alive: Looking Back At The It's Alive Films (2018)

*** (out of 4)

This eighteen-minute feautrette takes a look at the IT'S ALIVE series and features interviews with Larry Cohen, cinematographer Daniel Pearl, actors Michael Moriarty, James Dixon, Laurene Landon as well as Jon Burlingame, F.X. Feeney and Paul Kurta. I must say that this is certainly an entertaining look at the series but at the same time it somewhat seemed rather pointless. I say that because you've got all of these people that were connected to the movie and yet this is only eighteen-minutes long? Three films covered in eighteen-minutes? That just doesn't seem like enough time and it's really disappointing considering Shout Factory usually really delivers on documentaries like this. With that said, there are certainly some nice stories told about the making of the first film, which obviously gets the majority of the running time. We learn about its box office failure and how it eventually caught on. The sequels are discussed a lot less and that's too bad.
