This love letter to the great city of Angels presents a rainbow-like festive of bright sunny colors that are simply gorgeous to stare at it. L.A. is vivid, sunny all the time, everyone is united and smiley, and there are pretty girls - all for Randy Newman but it's the red-haired one that sticks with him all the time while he drives his car - and the sun never seems to fade on those beaches.
Well, that's the view we get from the clip, a total opposite of its beginning with a black-and-white New York city that seems colder than hell (and a city where Newman's lyrics spoof Sinatra songs).
It's a nice video to watch; the song is catchy and slightly campy with its heavy arrangements of the period (it's kinda confusing the direction the songs takes). A fun soft rock song. The few things missing in the video are more locations from the spectacular city (Hollywood sign, hello!) and a trend that is more recurring now which is to feature the presence of TV or movie stars appearing as themselves so we could get a higher sense of what's it like to walk, visit or live in that special place. The only bit parts come from members of Toto and Ambrosia as part of Newman's band.
It's a feel good experience and... we love it! 8/10
