A test projection was made on the 22nd of January of 2012 in the Andrés Bello Park in El Cangrejo, in Panama City. This version was in color and had a longer running time. Since then, director José Ángel Canto and editor Aldo Rey Valderrama re-edited the movie and it was officially released in 2018.
"La estación seca" was pre-nominated for five Platino awards: best first Ibero-American feature, best actor (Edgar Soberón Torchia), best actress (Erika Baum), best film editor, and best film on educational values. But when the organizers realized that its running time was 54 minutes, they disqualified it.
Both Spanish painter Ignacio Esplá and Panamanian rock musician Ricardo Isaza, who had featured roles in the movie, died before its release in 2018.
