Sex & Nudity

  • The main character and his girl friend kiss a few times once while she is on top of him on a couch fully clothed.
  • A teenage boy tells his girl friend that the main character has never had a girl friend she then asks "is it against your religion?"
  • The song "I think we're alone now" plays quietly in one scene the song has a suggestive meaning but is mild and quiet.
  • The female characters except the main one some times dress suggestive
  • A young couple kiss passionately in public and an older man comments that it is bad to do so. The boy's father comments that he taught him everything.

Violence & Gore

  • During a National Front rally, racists punch and generally rough-up Pakistani characters. A bloody nose is seen in the aftermath.

Profanity

  • The ethnic slur "Paki" is used occasionally. In terms of profanity, the words "shit" and "bloody" are uttered several times in the course in the film.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • When Javed is invited to Eliza's parents for dinner, they insist on him drinking alcohol with them to pouring for him against his wishes even after they are told it is against his religious beliefs.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Racist behaviour includes spitting, urination, vulgar graffiti and the use of ethnic slurs.
  • While dining, the protagonist is made to move from his table by racist bullies; while walking home, he is followed in a threatening manner.
  • During a National Front rally, racists punch and generally rough-up Pakistani characters.
  • During a family argument, the lead character's father is being completely unreasonable when he blows his temper at the idea that his son publicly defended their community instead of cowering as he wants to do and destroys his son's tickets he bought with his own money. Furious, the lead character denounces his father's imperiousness and walks out to the horror of his mother.
