The Man With The Bag is Schwarzenegger’s first feature since wrapping his part for Kung Fury 2, while Ritchson’s cache is overflowing after starring in Reacher, with projects like Playdate, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, and Motor City on the way.
Adam Shankman directs The Man With The Bag from a script by Allan Rice. The holiday-themed project hails from Amazon MGM Studios. Thrusting a cold, hard badass into a domestic setting is a tried-and-true set-up for a mediocre family comedy. Big muscular tough guys like Vin Diesel (playing a Navy-Seal-turned-babysitter in 2005’s “The Pacifier”), Dave Bautista (as a CIA agent looking after a nine-year-old girl in 2020’s “My Spy”), and Dwayne Johnson (as an NFL-player-turned-sudden-father in 2007’s “The Game Plan”) have all starred in movies that follow this dusty formula to a tee.
And every one of these films flounders largely because they rest on a single joke (isn’t it funny that someone so masculine is looking after kids) that isn’t actually all that funny.
To its slight credit, Apple TV+’s new film “The Family Plan” downplays that type of humor significantly; its sole sort of original idea is that its wayward badass Dan didn’t have his domestic life thrust upon him; he actively loves being a dad,...

Arnold Schwarzenegger may have set the standard of an action-tough guy making an unlikely family comedy that features him taking care of children. The comedic dynamic of said concept has so much potential that many have tried their hand at it, including Vin Diesel in The Pacifier, Dwayne Johnson in The Game Plan, Jackie Chan in The Spy Next Door and Dave Bautista in My Spy. Mark Wahlberg is throwing his hat in the ring for AppleTV+’s The Family Plan, which just released its first trailer. The family film os set to release on December 15.
According to People, Wahlberg plays “a suburban dad and car salesman named Dan Morgan — whose secret past as an elite government assassin comes back to haunt him.” The synopsis continues, “When enemies from his past track him down, Dan packs his unsuspecting wife (Michelle Monaghan), angsty teen daughter, pro-gamer teen son and adorable 10-month-old...

Under this new deal, Lionsgate will handle marketing and distribution for future STX theatrical releases in North America. It will also distribute the company’s 75-title library across all platforms and will include the development of several scripted TV series based on popular titles from STX’s library, including “Bad Moms” and “Hustlers.”
The first motion picture under this agreement will be “The Marsh King’s Daughter.” Roadside Attractions joined the two studios to announce that the film will debut exclusively in theaters by Roadside on October 6.

That’s the question Adele Lim said she faced as she and her partners puzzled over how to get their travel comedy “Joy Ride” made. The answer, the “Crazy Rich Asians” writer said at the movie’s SXSW premiere, where her film got a warm reception, turned out to be Lionsgate. “Joy Ride” — which follows a young Asian woman who travels to China with her friends on a business trip — became a highlight at Lionsgate’s CinemaCon presentation in April.
After years of seeming to fear the funny, Hollywood studios like Lionsgate are making a concerted effort to bring live-action comedies back to theaters. The problem is that comedy now pervades theatrical genres. Superhero movies, romantic stories and horror movies all seem to require a wink and a nudge these days. Spoiler alert: Dinosaurs and humans didn’t exist on Earth at the same time. This presents a problem for filmmakers looking to make a dinosaur movie with human/dino interaction, at least in terms of historical accuracy. One option is to ignore reality entirely, as One Million Years B.C. did. Another is to bring dinosaurs back to life, a la Jurassic Park and its many sequels. Or, you could have the characters go back in time, which is the solution delivered by the directing-screenwriting team of Scott Beck and Bryan Wood with 65, in which Adam Driver plays an astronaut from another planet who crashes on this planet 65 million years ago.
Or maybe the other planet also existed 65 million years ago, which would account for a key plot element. Driver’s character, Mills, has to undergo the grueling two-year space mission to pay for medical care for his daughter (Chloe Coleman...

At this point, is it really up for debate that Dave Bautista is the world’s best professional wrestler turned actor? Sorry, Dwayne Johnson fans, but it’s true: Bautista has better dramatic and comedic chops than him, and it’s not even close. Don’t believe it? Well, on the comedic end of things, audiences will have a new chance to watch Bautista flex his funniness soon. THR reports that Amazon has a sequel to 2020’s “My Spy” in the works, with Bautista reprising his role as CIA operative and surrogate dad JJ.

After the successes of the "Guardians of the Galaxy" flicks, "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery," and "Knock at the Cabin," Dave Bautista has pretty much solidified himself as the greatest wrestler-turned-actor of the era. Like Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and John Cena before him, Bautista was originally pigeonholed in tough guy roles because of his size before producers realized, "Hey, this guy is legitimately hilarious." Bautista has been showing off a wide range of acting talent for years now, including holding his own in the 'charismatic action star meets cute kid' formula on display in "My Spy."
The action comedy was released in 2020 to less-than-stellar reviews, but according to Variety, "My Spy" was the third most-watched film on SVOD the year of release. With Bautista's star being pushed to the stratosphere, it's no surprise Prime Video was interested in a sequel. What is a surprise, however, is how the...

Back in 2020, Dave Bautista followed in the big dude/cute kid film footsteps of Arnie, Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson with My Spy, which became one of the first films to ditch its planned release for streaming via Amazon as the pandemic began to impact cinemas. It ended up successful, and has now spawned a follow-up with Anna Faris, Craig Robinson and Flula Borg among the newcomers for My Spy: The Eternal City.
My Spy, in case it somehow passed you by, saw Bautista as JJ, a hulking-yet-sensitive CIA agent banished to a relatively straightforward undercover gig after a previous mission ends badly.

It’s been over two years since it was first announced that Amazon Studios and STXfilms were developing a sequel to My Spy, the action-comedy starring Dave Bautista and Chloe Coleman, but it finally appears to be moving forward. An action-comedy from STXfilms that Prime Video picked up for release amidst the theatrical shutdown of the Covid pandemic, My Spy told the story of JJ (Bautista), a hardened CIA operative who found himself at the mercy of precocious nine-year-old Sophie (Coleman), after being sent undercover to surveil her family. Schaal played JJ’s tech specialist colleague Bobbi, with Jeong as his boss, David.

Here's everything you need to know:
What Is It about?

The 2023 Super Bowl is still over two days away, but Sony Pictures has decided to give us an "early look" at a new (wordless) teaser trailer for the Adam Driver-led sci-fi thriller "65." It was appropriately released 65 hours ahead of Sunday's football kick-off. Sony is also indulging in some clever wordplay with the words "big game." It has two meanings, as you can tell. On one hand, it refers to the 2023 Super Bowl as the big football game — and also dinosaurs, in that Adam Driver is hunting some very big game.
In "65," as with HBO's excellent ongoing "The Last of Us," the male protagonist Mills (Driver) must keep a young girl called Koa (Ariana Greenblatt) safe from all kinds of monsters. The two are the only survivors of a crashlanding, one that has somehow taken Mills and his futuristic gun 65 million years into Earth's past. That's why there are so many dinosaurs around.

Of all the professional wrestlers that pivoted to a career acting in Hollywood, none have a filmography as varied, celebrated, and high-profile as Dave Bautista. Whereas many of Bautista's former pro wrestler contemporaries have since leaned into conventional action and comedy roles, Bautista has broadened his range considerably. While Bautista has certainly played characters that reflect his physical stature, he has also taken on roles that play against type in a growing number of genres, from thrillers to hard science fiction.
More than just a breadth of genres, Bautista is working with some of the most acclaimed filmmakers in the industry today, including M. Night Shyamalan, Denis Villeneuve, and Sam Mendes, each taking full advantage of Bautista's talents. A fearless actor in his own right, Bautista's performances can go from vulnerable to intimidating in an instant, as he shows increasing amounts of depth with each subsequent project. That's part...

When compared to other wrestlers who have crossed over into acting in mainstream films, Dave Bautista has an impressive career path. Whereas The Rock has become the powerhouse producer/megastar, Dwayne Johnson, and John Cena has mostly geared his resume toward comedic projects, Bautista has worked on varying movies with filmmakers like Sam Mendes, Rian Johnson, Denis Villeneuve, Zack Snyder, James Gunn, and now M. Night Shyamalan. Variety is reporting that the muscular actor would love to star in a romantic comedy, but never seems to get any offers for them.
In an interview with Page Six, Bautista had this to say, “I know I’m not your typical rom-com lead. I’m a little rough around the edges. But I always, you know, I look in the mirror and I say, I ask myself, ‘Am I that unattractive? Is there something that unappealing about me that excludes me from these parts?...

Dave Bautista’s filmography spans comic book movies (“Guardians of the Galaxy”), science-fiction tentpoles, action comedies (“Stuber”) and family movies (“My Spy”). One genre that’s missing is the romantic comedy, but that’s not been a deliberate choice. Bautista told Page Six that he’d love to star in a rom-com but he’s never gotten a single offer to do so. Not one.

“I don’t know,” Bautista added. “It’s just never come my way. I’ve never had an offer to do a rom-com. I still have high hopes. I’ll just keep searching.

We love watching Chris Evans in romantic comedies. In villainous roles. In action thrillers. And soon, in crime dramas. The actor has dabbled in distinct projects, more so since stepping away from his superhero responsibilities. He was recently seen playing the egocentric sociopath Lloyd Hansen alongside Ryan Gosling in Netflix's "The Gray Man."
Lately, Evans has joined a new production alongside award-winning actress Emily Blunt, a crime drama film titled "The Pain Hustlers," which Netflix acquired global rights to during this year's Cannes Film Festival. Everyone’s involved in a hustle nowadays. The economy is in the trash, the job market is a joke, and making ends meets is a constant struggle for many. If you’re comfortable with where you’re at, consider yourself fortunate. Not everyone has that luxury, and in David Yate’s The Pain Hustlers, one woman is about to discover what it’s like to play dirty for those pulling the wool over the eyes of the public.
Catherine O’Hara, Andy Garcia, and Jay Duplass are joining Chris Evans and Emily Blunt in Yate’s upcoming film, debuting on Netflix. Brian d’Arcy James and Chloe Coleman also star.
A crime drama that warps perceptions of the American Dream, the official logline for The Pain Hustlers says the film follows an unemployed “blue-collar woman struggling to raise her daughter [who] takes a job at a failing pharmaceutical start-up, only to get involved in a dangerous racketeering scheme.

STX is shuttering its UK operation, we understand, with most staff currently in consultation about their options. There will be a number of layoffs.
STX declined comment on the situation, which by our estimate could impact at least a dozen employees.
When it opened in 2017, STX’s impressive and large London office was a talking point among UK distributors. The studio always struggled to fill the vast top-floor space on the Strand and it seems that the overhead and expense of UK distribution is no longer viable.

A consortium of investors led by Najafi Companies has closed its deal to purchase STX Entertainment, the beleaguered film and television company behind “Bad Moms” and “My Spy.” The sale ends STX’s unhappy union with Eros, the Indian media company that it merged with in 2020. The goal was to go public, which STXEros did, but to little investor fanfare. STX had previously tried and abandoned an effort to go public on the Hong Kong stock exchange in 2018, citing unfavorable market conditions.

Exclusive: There’s been a lot of biting rumors around STX Entertainment during the past four months, from a potential sale to Lionsgate to possibly filing Chapter 11. STX Entertainment, the studio built by Robert Simonds, has freed itself from an ill-starred merger with Mumbai-based Eros Intl. Entering a definite agreement to acquire STX for $173 million is Jahm Najafi’s Phoenix-based The Najafi’s Companies.
The takeover appears to be an interim step on the way to a subsequent, possibly bigger, transaction. A key element of the agreement is a “go-shop period,” a 45-day span during which the board of directors of ErosSTX, with the assistance of its financial advisor, Lazard, can solicit alternative proposals from third parties.
The acquisition price does not include counting customary adjustments for transaction expenses and debt, including repayment of STX Entertainment debt of about $148 million.
If ErosSTX terminates the Najafi purchase agreement because it accepts a better offer, it will pay a termination fee of $4.5 million (plus the return of $2 million that Najafi has funded as a deposit) to Najafi. Likewise, Najafi...

Robert Simonds’ cash-strapped STX film studio, whose rare box office hits include “Hustlers” and the “Bad Moms” franchise, is trying to generate badly needed funds by selling off much of its 46-film library.
According to a regulatory filing on Wednesday, STX’s Mumbai-based parent company Eros STX Global Corp. said it “has entered into an exclusive negotiation period with a third party to monetize the revenue from 46 films in its library.” The company did not identify the prospective partner, and said the studio “will continue to administer and distribute the 46-film catalog for a fee, and will retain derivative rights to the 46 films, including sequels, remakes and prequels.”
The company said the money raised would be used to pay down its debt load — including a $150.1 million credit facility with JPMorgan that matures Oct. 7, as well as an additional $22.7 million in debt due in 2022.

The same morning that Amazon announced its proposed merger with MGM, it dropped another press release: “Amazon Studios will exclusively release The Tomorrow War globally on Prime Video July 2nd, 2021.” Assume the timing was coincidental, but it reinforces the deal’s key message: Theaters are of secondary concern.
There are exceptions: Eon Prods., which shares ownership of the James Bond franchise and has contractual say on key elements including distribution, quickly reasserted that “No Time to Die,” opening worldwide between September 30 and October 8 this fall, will see its planned theatrical release (through United Artists domestically and Universal elsewhere).
