good idea, poor execution
dreadytina28 December 2021
There's no horror here. I'm not talking about gory stuff, there's no atmosphere, no scare, no feeling with this movie. I guess the script didn't help but neither did the music. I wonder if the ones in charge with the music ever saw the raw version of the movie because man, the sounds are so not ok with the scenes.

All in all, if there's nothing else to do, you could watch it. But don't expect any bonding with the characters or a feeling of some sort.

Lifetime-esque Mystery
kkmgirl-448-1119886 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
For your typical B-movie thriller, this was fine. All the usual tropes are accounted for- wealthy family with uptight Dad, (sickly) older sis, precocious younger bro, & artsy Mom who decided they need a ginormous mansion to live in (I find it hilarious Mom gets upset when she calls out for the kids and no one answers... either get a tracking device or a smaller house then). The plot twist wasn't uninteresting, but instead of expanding on that, it ended up all kinds of schmaltzy. I honestly only wrote a review because the ending song literally made me snort- the lyrics are almost as hilariously bad as the singing, made even worse when it turns out to be the main character (Mom) at fault. I think the director or producer must be the husband (same last name). I immediately got the impression this dynamic duo are #believers and want to promote awareness of our brethren in the stars. 4 stars for the unintended giggles at the end.

House haunted by alien
burgif21 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It would have been OK if it was more realstic (fictionally that is) a family bought a haunted house and use a descredited PHD to help them, the PHD guy was right all along but at the end he is portrayed as a villian and that what killed the buzz.

Derivitive Dreck
tmccull5230 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Move along, folks; nothing to see here. This is just another bland, check-the-requisite-boxes horror movie. A family buys a sprawling mansion at a dirt cheap price, and oh no! As the title of the film suggests, they're "Not Alone".

Let's start with the sale of the house, near the beginning of the movie. Even before the family signs on the proverbial dotted line, strange things happen while they're touring the house, including finding a ritualistically slaughtered chicken in one of the rooms. "Nothing to worry about!" the realtor showing the mansion proclaims. "It's just the neighborhood kids." The family buys this lame explanation without batting an eye, even though the father correctly guesses that the realtor has an ulterior motive for wanting to be rid of the property.

The family buys the mansion and moves in, and the strange occurrences continue. The youngest child thinks that he sees something moving under the pool cover, and of course, his parents blow him off. The father hires a service to clean the pool, and of course, the daughter becomes hopelessly smitten with the pool service guy from the second that she lays eyes on him. The pool is cleaned, and there is no sign of whatever it was that the son thought that he might have seen.

False alarm, right? WRONG! Shortly after the pool is cleaned, the mother gets pulled into the pool by some unseen force and is nearly drowned. The father goes into the pool to see what it might have been that grabbed the mother, and he comes up with a submerged tree branch. He directs the family to stay away from the pool for the time being.

More strange hijinks ensue, and the family is reached out to by a disgraced PhD who tells the mother that he knows exactly what is going on with their house, even though he's never been there. Moreover, he boldly proclaims that he is literally the only man on the planet who can help them, and invites himself over to the property.

There are suggestions throughout the movie that the source of these strange occurrences are related to voodoo practices and hostile spirits. WRONG! The real culprit is a semi-translucent extraterrestrial being who is virtually invisible in water, and lives in the pool. This alien creature is trying to drive the family out of the house and off of the property because, yanno, semi-translucent, water-dwelling extraterrestrials always have a keen eye for real estate deals and luxurious architecture. Well, it's actually an extradimensional creature, and not an extraterrestrial alien. Apples, oranges, y'know.

As dumb as this movie is before this disgraced PhD shows up to save the family, it gets even dumber after he arrives and explains what the true culprit is.

Almost all horror movies these days rely heavily on the lead characters making the stupidest, most unrealistic, implausible decisions when threats loom, and the characters in this farce are THE textbook definition of this kind of stupidity. The PhD that shows up to help them is volatile and erratic, and yet the family obeys his every instruction without question. And as the movie progresses, and you think that things can't get any stupider and more inane, the filmmakers prove you wrong. "Not Alone" is about as dumb as it gets.

A very, very bland horror movie...
paul_haakonsen26 December 2021
Can't claim to ever have heard a single thing about this 2021 horror movie titled "Not Alone" from writers and directors Lydelle Jackson and Cezil Reed. Regardless, as I had the opportunity to sit down and watch "Not Alone", of course I did so, as it was a horror movie that I hadn't already seen. And I will say that the movie's synopsis was fair enough.

However, writers and directors Lydelle Jackson and Cezil Reed didn't really deliver anything grand here with this movie. Sure, it was semi-watchable, but that was also about all that there was to "Not Alone". I can't claim to have been particularly impressed with the storyline, nor overly entertained by what the movie delivered.

The pacing of the story and its narrative was slow and monotonous, and there wasn't ever any proper scares throughout the course of the 1 hour and 27 minutes that the movie ran for. And that made it somewhat tedious to sit through the entire movie.

I wasn't familiar with the cast in "Not Alone", but they didn't strike me as putting on memorable or outstanding performances. Now, I suspect that the writers are to blame here, because I am sure that the actors and actresses did their best. However, you are not in for a Shakespearian experience if you sit down to watch "Not Alone".

"Not Alone" is not a horror movie that I will ever be returning to watch a second time, because it was a struggle in itself to sit through it the first time. Not surprisingly, then this is not a movie that I would recommend you waste your time, money or effort on. Some of us did so you don't have to.

My rating of "Not Alone" lands on a generous three out of ten stars. A weak horror movie that failed to bring anything new or interesting to the genre.

Shennanigans in the Pool Zone!!
fluffchop12 December 2021
The 10/10 reviews of which there are three, are all from accounts who have reviewed just THIS movie. Fake reviews! Caught YOU!!!!

This movie is lacking from the start. They're putting voodoo nonsense with a bunch of tokens standing around doing things at the beginning when it has no bearing on the rest of the film. You don't do that in films. If you start a movie that way it's because THAT PART is INTEGRAL TO THE PLOT!!! Hence lacking from the start.

They could have should have would have been better if they had.... built up the token scientist a lot more to give him better credibility. Then the family about turns because the alien is somehow pregnant. SHE? Told the girl this.

It's a little bit of a different take on the haunted home theme, it tried. Did it succeed? I think it did. I think it's a solid 4/10.

not bad
wolfygamynyt17 February 2022
Good story build up was but ending was out of the blue, out of context and didn't make much sense. I think it's more of a thrilling/drama movie and not horror, as there are barely any content you'd see in any horror movies.

'Derivitive Dreck Is Right!'

Haha read the review titled 'Derivitive Dreck' That aptly sums up this sub par movie. It's just bad, really bad. But I did make it to the end, so I have to give it 2/10.

This movie should be named, "The True Casey Anthony Story"
gunn-wrights26 August 2022
I mean, how many people can drown in a pool before you just put cement in it and call it a day! I could have ended this movie in 10 minutes!

And what's with the Doctor? Why is he so desperate to kill it? They never explain anything going on, or why it's happening.

It was so boring and emotionally disconnected from the characters - I was hoping the alien - ghost - mass psychosis thing would just kill them all. Now THAT would have made for a great movie!

RECOMMENDATION: Skip This Garbage!! Unless you're trying to make yourself dumber (which the world is already there any way) - then go ahead, be my guest!

Much Better Than Expected
jgesselberty-14 February 2022
I put this movie on more as background to working on my laptop. It was far more than background, and quickly moved into the foreground. No, it is not the perfect science fiction/horror movie that some of the reviewers are snobbishly looking for; but it is a well-acted story, with a decent plot and a nice little twist. For a low-budget flick, it was well worth watching.

Great ideas and general plan
ivan_dmitriev25 March 2022
...but poorly and illogically thought-out execution.

The movie starts as a pretty standard haunting but turns scientific quite quickly, however the behavior of both the scientists and the family isn't logical considering their background, position in society and respective levels of power they have, and the same can be said unfortunately of the supernatural element there.

Could have been a 7 or 8 with a better writer, less intent on including pseudo-feminist tropes, because while originally it might have been intended as subversion, in reality they are pseudo-feminist when you think of how they were written out in this movie.

Haunted house with a twist
smatzkindip24 November 2021
This film was shot very well. It is very scary, but there is an unexpected twist that I didn't see coming. Love when you watch a movie and you can not guess the ending.

Great movie!!!!
vanetsky6 February 2022
Thought it was going to be another haunting story. Definitely not! I was surprised and thought it was a great, new, and different idea other than another ghost/spirit/demon story. Also, very well done for a low budget film, they did a really good job!

Must watch Thriller. Really love the actor Richard Lawson and his character. Also love Tommy the young son, in the middle. The movie has a twist. Enjoyed knowing the ending.

Great music at the end. Awesome job!
