Ibai Llanos has rewritten the Twitch record books once again. The Spanish streamer drew more than 3.4 million concurrent viewers for La Velada Del Año III, the latest in a series of influencer boxing events.
The third edition of La Velada Del Año (which translates to “The Night of the Year”) took place at Madrid’s Civitas Metropolitano stadium, where 70,000 fans showed up to watch a series of fights and musical performances.
Ibai’s seven-hour stream of the event included appearances from top Hispanic creators and artists. YouTuber Fernanfloo won a close contest against gamer Luzu, Mexican streamer Samy “Rivers” Rivera participated in two matches, and Puerto Rican megastar Ozuna delivered a headlining musical performance. The main card proved to be a bit anticlimactic, as Chilean YouTube legend Germán Garmendia lasted less than two rounds against the big punches of his Argentinian opponent Coscu.
The event was not without its hiccups.

Yesterday we shared the news of the three-disc special edition 4K release Severin Films is planning for the 1981 film Nightmare, a.k.a. Nightmares in a Damaged Brain. Now we have another awesome Severin Films release to let you know about, as they will be giving legendary director Lucio Fulci‘s 1977 film The Psychic a four-disc special edition 4K release!
Described as Fulci’s “ultimate giallo masterpiece”, The Psychic was scripted by Fulci, Roberto Gianviti, and Dardano Sacchetti, and is also known as Seven Notes in Black or Murder to the Tune of the Seven Black Notes. Apparently Quentin Tarantino entertained the idea of remaking the film with Bridget Fonda in the lead role back in the ’90s. Fulci’s film stars Jennifer O’Neill (Scanners) as a woman tormented by violent visions of past slayings. Or are they premonitions of murders still to come?

Ash has announced their first new album together in more than five years, and sharing a new single alongside news of an upcoming UK / EU tour. Race The Night, the band’s eighth studio album, will be released on 15th September 2023 via one of their earliest label homes Fierce Panda. With 29 years, 18 hit singles, seven studio albums and an unfathomable number of tour dates since their appearance on the label’s 1994 Crazed And Confused compilation, Race The Night is both a party with old friends and a message to leap into the present with arms wide open.
Fitting then that the lead single should be the album’s title-track, with its super-charged and widescreen anthemia being the perfect primer for a record that has melodies to spare. “Before the shadows let us go, and it’s too late, to race the night” sings lead vocalist and guitarist Tim Wheeler as...

Exclusive: Mammoth Pictures has inked a deal out of Cannes with the Bulgarian production company Bazuka to exclusively develop and produce a narrative feature take on the cultural tradition spotlighted in Kukeri, their documentary short produced for The New Yorker which was just unveiled at the beginning of the month. Plot: Kate Wyler is the new US Ambassador to the United Kingdom. She was supposed to go to Afghanistan. She’s great in a crisis zone. In a historic home… less so. War is brewing on one continent and boiling over on another. Kate will have to diffuse international crises, forge strategic alliances in London, and adjust to her new place in the spotlight — all while trying to survive her marriage to fellow career diplomat and political star Hal Wyler.
Review: Political series come in two distinct flavors. One is heavily action-oriented, with thrills rooted in espionage and chase sequences like The Night Agent. The other is the intricate palace intrigue housed within the halls of political machinations like House of Cards. Now and then, a third version comes into play that is not reliant on menace or action but manages to be engaging and aspirational, like in NBC’s acclaimed The West Wing.

Neil Young always knew Tonight’s the Night was intense. “If you’re gonna put a record on at 11:00 in the morning, don’t put on Tonight’s the Night,” he warned Cameron Crowe in 1975. “Put on the Doobie Brothers.”
Young’s point was evident without even hearing the music. Previously in “The Night Agent,” the secret service of the White House was compromised, and with assistance from an informant in the White House, Dale and Ellen were able to spot Rose in the hotel, but Peter was able to save her once again. They both arrived at the cabin of the Campbells, where Rose and Peter recovered a hard drive. Hawkins, the most suspicious Deputy Director, was killed in the meanwhile, indicating that either he knew something or he was the informant. Despite Farr’s insistence, Rose hesitated to take the hard drive to the White House since Hawkins’ murder had given her a sense of paranoia regarding everyone there.
Spoilers Ahead
What Is The Night Action Line?
The third episode opens with a flashback to one year prior, when Peter was actually leading a fairly peaceful life in comparison to how things are now, but the peace was fleeting.

Morgan Wade’s acclaimed debut album Reckless will get a refresh in 2022 with a deluxe edition due out Jan. 28. The project, which was originally released independently, will now feature six songs not found on the original version, including the newly released “Run.”
Anchored by a descending three-note riff that piles on guitars, piano and drums, the lean “Run” evokes Tom Petty as it articulates the feeling of yearning for something more. “So many places that I ain’t been/All I know is I was living my life for him,...

It’s been a big year for Christina Sulebakk. The esteemed international TV exec was appointed by WarnerMedia to General Manager of HBO Max Emea in January, giving her oversight of HBO Max in the region as it geared up for its launch and future expansion in various territories. The move also put her in charge of transitioning prime services such as HBO Nordic and HBO Go into WarnerMedia’s flagship streamer. Only six months prior to this appointment, Sulebakk had replaced former HBO Europe CEO Hervé Payan to lead the linear networks and streaming services amid WarnerMedia’s exec shakeup last year.
“It’s been an emotional rollercoaster, but we’ve planned everything right,” says Sulebakk of the HBO Max Emea launch, which began the initial phase of its 27-territory rollout in Europe last month with the Nordics and Spain.

There’s just so much summer in “The Tsugua Diaries” — great lashings of sunlight warming and slightly melting every 16mm frame, tangles of hyper-green foliage that seem to sweat in the heat, a generally horny, indolent air of human mischief — that you’d be forgiven for assuming “Tsugua” is some idyllic holiday spot you’ve never heard of, the best-kept secret on the Algarve. As with many elements of Miguel Gomes and Maureen Fazendeiro’s woozy, insouciant experiment, however, a longer look reveals something both surprising and simple. “Tsugua” is simply “August” spelled backwards, which certainly ties into the film’s humid seasonality, and also clues us into its modus operandi.
Everything unfolds backwards in this film about filmmaking under curious circumstances, only gradually revealing the motivations and points of view driving the enterprise, and playfully withholding any sense of what it might all be about. “The Tsugua Diaries” is...

Hong Kong drama “Drifting” leads Taiwan’s Golden Horse Film Awards race with 12 nominations including best narrative feature and best adapted screenplay, organizers announced on Tuesday.
The film that revolves around the tragedy of homeless people in Hong Kong also earned a nomination for Jun Li in the best director category. Veteran actor Francis Ng, who plays a homeless drug addict battling for justice, was also nominated for best leading actor.
Since 2019, Beijing has operated a mainland Chinese boycott of the awards that for many years were seen as the highest accoladed for Chinese-language filmmaking. And in 2019 and 2020 most Hong Kong films and filmmakers also stayed away. This year’s list sees an uptick in the Hong Kong participation, but only in the cases of films that are unlikely ever to receive a release in mainland China.

Bahman Ghobadi, the exiled Iranian filmmaker who has won prizes at Cannes, Berlin, San Sebastian and many other international festivals, has penned a letter to the Film Academy saying, “It would be great if we could have one representative from exiled artists.”
Read his missive in full below.
Ghobadi, who has been in exile for the past 13 years, joined the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2017. In his letter to Academy CEO Dawn Hudson, he talks about exiled artists and suggests that every year one of their movies should be presented to the Academy for Oscar consideration. He notes that the same thing happened for the Tokyo Olympics, where a team of refugee athletes was able to join the competition.

Exclusive: The Purge franchise architect James DeMonaco has crafted a personal film, which is an ode to cinema, based in his hometown of Staten Island, entitled This Is the Night and the Blumhouse release has a one-week theatrical run starting this Friday, Sept. 17 at Angelika’s Village East in New York City before hitting PVOD on Sept. 21 via Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.
“I conceived this film as a love-letter to cinema. This is the Night is a passion project I’ve been waiting to make. A story based in my hometown of Staten Island, the film serves as a PSA: Movies bring us–people, families–together. There’s no time like the present to celebrate movies and how they inspire us,” DeMonaco tells Deadline.
“James has a real knack for prescient storytelling, and working with him on this picture – which is such a departure from our usual type of collaborations...

In the acclaimed director Chung Mong-Hong’s latest dramatic offering, “The Falls,” a high school student is forced to confront the wounds of a strained relationship with her mother when the two of them are forced to stay at home because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Auteur Tsai Ming-Liang, on the other hand, takes the audience on a time machine in short film “The Night,” sending them back to one night during the fall of 2019, when Hong Kong was in the midst of the worst political turmoil it has ever seen.
“The Falls” and “The Night” are the two offerings from Taiwan featured at this year’s Venice Film Festival. While “The Falls” is a dramatic feature from a director who has won the hearts of some of the world’s toughest film critics with drama “A Sun,” which was shortlists for the international film Oscar, “The Night” is an artistic...

Heading into the Venice International Film Festival’s 78th edition, organizers created a rift with Taiwan by listing two films hailing from the island territory as being from “Chinese Taipei,” rather than simply “Taiwan” as they always have been in the past.

Perk the ears at any film festival and you might hear talk that Franz Rogowski is the best European actor of his generation. The captivating German offers further evidence to support such claims with Luzifer, a rather ugly sort of film (though intentionally so) made good by the strange draw of his charisma—plus, amongst other things, a terrific Tim Hecker score. Inspired by true events, it is the story of a secluded innocent who must do battle with a plague of satanic drones. The director is Peter Brunner, an Austrian filmmaker with a taste for grungy aesthetics. His 2018 film To the Night attempted something not too dissimilar with Caleb Landry Jones but couldn’t quite find the right alchemy.
Rogowski plays Johannes, a young man living in a state of precarious codependency with his mother, a recovering addict (played by artist Susanne Jensen) who has long since given herself over to the almighty.

Taiwanese auteur Tsai Ming-liang’s short “The Moon and the Tree” will world premiere at the upcoming Taipei Film Festival. The 23rd iteration will be held in-person from Sept. 23 to Oct. 9.
“The Moon and the Tree” will debut after Tsai’s 19-minute short “The Night” opens out of competition at Venice.
This will mark the third consecutive year that the Taipei Film Festival has featured work from Tsai. It screened his short “Your Face” in 2019, and his films “Days” and “Goodbye, Dragon Inn” in 4K restoration in 2020.
“Although it’s a short film, I’m serious about my participation in the festival,” Tsai said. He will participate in a discussion with the audience at the fest.
“The Moon and the Tree” features and tells the story of notable Taiwanese artists Lee Pei-jing and Chang Feng.

Okay, we know. Last Friday was the thirteenth, the day that the studio generally releases a spooky flick to chill the bones (and get butts in the seats). And the thriller sequel Don’T Breathe 2 was unleashed. But that doesn’t mean that the following Friday can’t get one too. And what better place to encounter some “unfriendly spirits” than a creeky ole’ haunted mansion. That’s the reasoning behind the new fright flick, except…This spectral showcase is nearly brand new. Still, there are lots of strange stuff happening when the sun goes down at The Night House.
As the story starts, we’re viewing shaky home videos and wedding photos of the happy couple who occupied the newly built home tucked away in the woods on the banks of a tranquil lake.

In a sad blow, the Melbourne International Film Festival (Miff) has announced it will cancel its in-cinema screenings given the current Covid situation in the city.
The festival, always designed as a hybrid event, will continue nationally on Miff Play, with the festival securing an additional 30 titles for the platform. These include some direct-from-Cannes titles such as The Hill Where Lionesses Roar, La Civil, Rehana Maryam Noor and Babi Yar, and Australian films Ablaze, Chef Antonio’s Recipes for Revolution, Little Tornadoes and Paper City.
However, some of the festival most anticipated films, including local films such as Leah Purcell’s The Drover’s Wife The Legend of Molly Johnson, intended as the Opening Night Gala, and Justin Kurzel’s Nitram are not available on the service.
As regional Victoria is no longer in lockdown, the festival’s regional season will proceed, with required changes to the line-up to be advised through local operators.

Iranian filmmaker Kourosh Ahari has been working in the industry in the US for almost a decade, covering different roles and directing few short movies. His latest work, the horror film “The Night”, is an Iran-us co-production, which he has directed, co-written and edited, bravely shot almost exclusively in Farsi with an excellent Iranian cast and crew. The film is making a bit of history as it is the first US-produced film to receive a license for theatrical release in Iran since the revolution, and also because it’s an extremely rare representative of the horror genre, in a country that produces and watches mainly social dramas and comedies.
Mirrors are fascinating and baffling beasts. Their strong symbolic significance has always inspired artists’ and filmmakers’ imaginative metaphors for self-discovery and introspection. They magically allow us to stare into our own eyes and look behind us, inviting us to go past the shiny surface.
