Wasn't sure what to expect
scoorah17 September 2018
I read the reviews of this show and thought it was going to be dull and badly put together. I never saw the original with a Leonard Nemoy which I'm glad because I can look at this fresh.

The show is interesting and Zachary Quinto is engaging as a curious host.

It's kind of nice to see a show like this again. It's a break from the news and social media.

It's worth a try.

I'll Take The Original Until This One Gets Revamped
AudioFileZ27 August 2018
I'm not sure this needs reviewing as I'm thinking soon it will likely disappear or if if it comes back be seriously rebooted. This kind of show based on the past series was to be both thought provoking as well as entertaining in equal measures. Right now I feel those two main ingredients are in short supply. The show needs more of an upbeat type search with much less repetition. Watching this is like being in a cave of gloom. I think science and mysteries should be more fun and rewarding.

Interesting

Season 1 Zach actually does the interviewing & participate in the investigations. 2nd season he is just a narrator standing in front of a green screen. Not sure why they changed the format

Much better than expected.

A good 7.5, at least.

I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the negative votes for this series is from the lunatic fringe - upset that the topic subjects were revealed as "disproven".

Because of that skepticism not edited out, thereby leaving belief or dismissal to the viewer, I will continue watching!

I see the gay bashers are out
zapmcia31 July 2022
This is a good show and Zachary does a good job of presenting the possibilities. It's not designed to present conclusions, only to make you think. And the fact that he's gay has nothing to do with your comments about him? Yeah, right. Or, you're just a bunch of idiots who need to get out of your mom's basement.

Warning: Spoilers
I like Zachary Quinta as far as it goes, but yet again, the History Channel disappoints. ZQ should hang his head in shame to be a part of this mess. I struggled through two episodes; AI and Time Travel. The AI episode was reduced to a discussion on how soon we might have realistic sex dolls. I don't know where to even start with the time travel episode. What does time travel have in common with 'infrasound"? Evidently nothing but it took us 15 minutes to find out...or like the airplane story, maybe my experience watching it was so awful, time slowed down and it only felt like 15 minutes. The take away? Run from this poorly thought out, poorly written, not even titilating, junk yard mess. You will learn nothing of interest.

Quinto's In Search Of...
doshiamundy20 September 2018
I really enjoy this series. It's researched, it's brand new, and ISN'T REALITY TVBS!!! I rated it a 9/10. He touches on everything from sinkholes and AI to life after death and alien encounters. It's a great nod to Leonard Nimoy and his series of the 70s. I grew up eating this kind of show with a spoon. This self affirmed nerd LOVES this show. Don't be that judgemental artist that stands in the back with your arms crossed pretending not to enjoy! Watch it knowing they obviously took care with this show and did preserve it's integrity.

An Honest Review
generationofswine21 July 2018
I guess it's cute that Zachary Quinto is hosting the new in search of given that he also played Spock. But, that doesn't mean it has the same heart.

The first "In Search Of..." the real Spock's series, had a lot more heart to it and seemed more inquisitive than this one.

At least it, the original, seemed like it had a thesis but was considering evidence about the thesis. It didn't seem to walk in with the clear assumption that they were right and then only look for the evidence that backs it up.

This one seems that it's only going to accept the evidence that fits the thesis and throw everything else out. It doesn't even really emphasis that it's based on "theory and conjuncture" like the first one did, that was the draw to it, the appeal.

This comes across more like Ancient Aliens, where everything BUT the thesis is discounted and they don't really want to entertain how much of it is just speculative theories to entertain and titillate.

Really it's more History Channel Junk. The title makes you miss the Josh Bernstein era where, when they went for speculation and conjuncture and pure titillation, at least it felt like they were being honest about the conclusions.

This just feels like Ancient Alien conspiracy crap with no real effort to be anything more than speculation past off as total truth.

sorely disappointed
steveswangler19 August 2018
As one reviewer wrote, he/she thought that negative reviewers were people that didn't get the validation from this show they hoped for. I am not one of those. I am a skeptic, I demand proof before I believe anything. but the first episode I saw of this new version, Time Travel, two photos of "time travelers" are shown, and both photos have already thoroughly been debunked. if the show is going to use shoddy research and debunked information, why should I waste my time?

An Insult to Critical Thinking
johnpaulhansen25 August 2018
This week they actually, seriously, entertained the argument that sinkholes opening up in the earth were a punishment from god for our collective immoral behavior. If I wanted science content like this I would just watch ancient Aliens. Yikes.

I'm glad they didn't "Sugar Coat" their answers!

Warning: Spoilers
At first I thought it would be another weak and meaningless TV Show...

I was pleasantly surprised when they administered the polygraph test, looked the guy in the face, told him he failed because he was not truthful.

My feeling of satisfaction were reinforced when the alleged Alien Implant proved to be nothing more than a Iron fragment.

There were enough "What If's" to keep me watching and it was Awesome to have a Host not blowing smoke up...

I will be watching Mr. Quinto in this NEW TV series!

No redeeming factors in this at all
yaroslavc11 August 2018
An extremely disappointing revival of the original. Zachary Quinto's attempt at Leonard Nemoy delivery seems stunted and devoid of any authenticity. Much of the "insightful" demonstrations and testimonies come off as trite and/or cartoonish. The episode on AI had a ridiculous portion at a sex doll manufacturer attempting to ignore the fact that the dolls were not being made for any legit AI uses but rather for people to use to have sex with. This show is beyond bad!

Something Suspicious
ramblingvagabond19 October 2020
If you listen to Zachary's voice, you will realize the truth. It sounds like a computer generated voice. It's not quite perfect, they haven't yet perfected the technology to make Zachary truly appear human. It's my belief that he is a robot controlled by J.J. Abrams.

It seems fitting that this new In Search Of series should be narrated by Spock, just like the original. The problem was they didn't have a new Spock, hence the reason for creating this cyborg.

Someday they may create actors that can actually appear human and show human emotions. For now, they are restricted to playing Vulcans and narrating shows where a robotic voice is actually a benefit.

BORING
bunnytman24 September 2018
The subject matter in each show is good, but Zach is the most boring host I've ever seen. He hardly ever smiles. He shows no enthusiasm or facial expressions. Just boring.

Nimoy's In Search Of....
sscialli18 August 2018
Leonard Nimoy had better researchers on his show before there was an Internet. It fails to keep my interest and I like Zachary Quinto, just he should do some real research too. I want the show to try to explain "The Coral Castle" in Florida City , Fla. How a 90 pound man made coral sculptures , 10-20 ton Sculptures, Edward Leedskalin. What's more remarkable is he did this all with a simple block and tackle, yet he even said "The Egyptians had it all written out, you can do it too." Research it as this is a modern man moving pyramid blocks and shaping them! No size was too big, he also wrote a book on magnetism that reads similarly hard to comprehend to Eisteins Theory of Relativity! This isn't centuries in the past, this is modern times. Do the story and the research. In Search of ...Answers not pseudo-science like Mr Tachyon

Time travel

Love this show but I felt confused from the clip of a women from a much earlier time maybe the 1930's seeming to be talking on a cell phone ... who could she even be having a conversation with when that technology didn't exist . Who was on the other end of the phone call?there couldn't possibly be any signal for that phone to work , right?

This was horrible and boring first season and worse in the second
yaroslavc12 October 2019
There is just nothing compelling about this show. Just because Z Quinto played Spock in the rebooted Star Trek movies does not mean he has all of Leonard nemoy's eerie charisma which made the original "in search of" compelling. Not to mention the rather silly topics of the episodes and pretty predictable debunking of each topic.

VERIFIABLE SOURCES
skellatina11 April 2021
We watch this show repeatedly as a family. The emotion from Zachary is tangible and his delivery of the information is on point. These topics are a little 'sensationalized" for your viewing pleasure but what current show is not? It is a marvelous idea of continuing the "Spock" role as the delivery method for messages that many do not want to hear and often are for the first time. We DO live in a world of Magick. We DO live in a world of hate and superiority issues. Many topics Zachary touches on cover this very thing as well as a variety of other curious subjects.

A modern Spock, for a modern world. We look forward to more!

It's just SOOOOOO bad
yaroslavc8 September 2018
How in the hell did Zachary Quinto sign himself up for this, it really should be an embarrassment to him. There is nothing about this that at all reflects anything from the original "in search of" except me quinto trying to channel Leonard memory and the dr Spock character simoultaneously and present the material, but it just comes off really bad. And some of the clips they have had in the show are just shockingly ridiculous like in the episode about artificial intelligence where he spends almost half of the episode in a factory that makes sex dolls, showing off these sex toys yet sidestepping the fact that the entire purpose these things are being created for is for people to use for things not at all connected to any kind of artificial intelligence.

I don't like his voice
beanofdoom15 September 2018
ZQ annoys me and I think that, if I'm to be honest, it's as a direct result of comparisons to Leonard Nimoy.

I hate to be one of those fans, and I knew that in Trek they'd have to replace Nimoy eventually, but Quinto is just not a good fit in my opinion. I've tried to keep an open mind about him, I thought maybe he'd grow on me, I mean the other new actors for the other characters were all okay, but Quinto just takes me out of the the thing every time he's in a scene.

That said, him now doing this reboot of In Search Of is just adding salt to the wound. I wish they'd have just made it a new series, then I imagine it would have been easier for me to be fairer to Quinto, to judge the series on its own merits. As it is though I can't help but to compare him to Nimoy again and, of course, as a result find him lacking.

The one place where this is most notable for me is with the narration. Nimoy's voice itself was a phenomenon. It had this sort of meditative quality to it. Quinto on the other hand just sounds like some dude they gave a microphone to. I just can't get over it.

70's In Search Of with a modern tech viewpoint
m_alquist2 February 2019
This show is so refreshing in so many ways. Humans marvel at the unknown and Zachary Quinto is fantastic as the modern curious host. Might I even say this is far superior in production quality than the original with Leonard Nimoy. Quinto actually goes to the locations as opposed to Nimoy who couldn't due to his acting schedule. Fabulous, well done and I hope to see more seasons!
