Good soapy drama
debonator15 December 2022
Excellent series with sumptuous scenery and costumes, fine acting, and story lines that keep the pace going. Some of it is far fetched, like how quickly they forgive each other or easily they overcome their prejudices, but we all want to watch how things 'could' be in human relationships, rather than how they really are typically where people hold grudges and intentionally hurt others. TV is meant to make you feel better about life, not worse, not remind you how horrible humans can be to each other, that's what the news is for. This show is emotionally entertaining and broaches subjects that are still relevant in the 21st century.

I enjoyed this series very much and love Spanish period pieces, however the ending was very disappointing. I would have loved to see another season to fix the storyline for most characters.

Outstanding storyline and acting
josephpcarbone10 December 2022
Really enjoyed the acting and storyline of this series. Think it presented a very good snapshot of the 1920s attitudes and biases.

The acting was outstanding which also reflected a great absorbing writing talent and direction.

I have recorded some of the episodes and will go back to look at them again.

Without giving spoilers the 13th episode was a roller coaster of emotions with spectacular acting.

Great ability to draw the viewer in. Great translation at bottom of screen though tried to follow with my high school Spanish.

Was very disappointed to find there isn't a second season yet but hope one comes along and is picked up by PBS.

Great serious series

We are almost through the first season PBS Passport and are very impressed with the quality of storytelling, acting, directing, cinema etc. It surprised us to get such a good series from Spain because we are so used to British dramas. The issues dealt with are mature and complex, much like what women were dealing with here in the US in the 1970s, and within the last decade up to the present. A lot of the tension stems from ancient beliefs and practices set against modern ideas. And there is a fascinating mystery throughout that still keeps us wondering. Subtitles let us know what they are saying, but sometimes they talk so fast we can't keep up. Watch it anyway.

Love season 1
zvgkqmvdb15 May 2022
Just finished watching season 1. Love the clothe, story line. Amazing cast. Loved how season 1 ended. Major twist on who killed Tersa's dad. Now I need to see what happens next. So upset that I can't find season 2 anywhere. Here on this app I can only find pictures of each episode of season 2.

Absolutely wonderful series!

In spite of the fact that the series in in Spanish, so I had to read the subtitles, I think it is one of the most brilliant series I've ever watched!

There is so much to admire here: the intriguing plot with all its twists and turns, the outstanding cast, the sumptuous setting, the music, the clothing- all of it combines to be such a beautiful, mesmerizing, compelling series!

While there are a few main characters who draw our attention, the minor characters also add so much to this original and very creative series.

I have been unable to stop watching since I began because everything able the series has drawn me into the world of this wonderful school for girls in Saville. I've never been to Spain, yet I'm so completely drawn to these complex characters!

Please, please give us more! I want to know what happens to the school, to the students, to the teachers, and to my most favorite characters!

Do yourselves a favor and fall into the beautiful and complex world of this amazing, beautiful, complex series!!

Engaging But Superficial and Preachy
Melvin_Tigerfists6 September 2022
This is basically a soap opera infused with hamfisted and predictable feminist messages. There are some interesting characters and storylines, but very little to make you think or keep you guessing. In fact, in order to make certain you are thinking exactly what the director wants you to think, the melodramatic soundtrack gives very clear signals. The show has all the pieces present to make possible an amazing series, but is content to lead the viewer around by the nose and use tried and true clichés. At over one hour per episode, there was plenty of time to go deep. As with any foreign series, you do learn things about the country of origin.

Cheesy and predictable
qui_j19 September 2022
This series appears to be made for a specific local audience. It has little to offer in the way of global interest. It is a period drama from Spin that deals with changing social mores in that country during the 1920s. Attached to this main premise is a loosely fabricated mystery. The acting is below average, with actors delivering their lines as though reading from cue cards or a teleprompter. The heavy industrial strength makeup for the actors makes them all look both garish and ghoulish. That has a most disturbing and most distracting visual impact. It is, as others have pointed out, a soap opera filled with feminist messages about strong women and overtones of communism. It is really not worth the effort to go much beyond episode 1!

Wake up, PBS!
ellenj-1157329 September 2022
PBS productions used to be synonymous with quality. No longer. While I realize this was purchased from abroad, it's another cheap soap opera, replete with an overly saccharine sound track and a clunky plot with clumsy misdirection. Lately PBS has served up a menu of tired murder mysteries and an unhappy blend of period pieces centering around current cultural issues. I'm tired of this erroneous interpretation of the past, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. How about giving us quality TV again -- series such as Brideshead Revisited, the Foresyte Saga, and I Claudius were outstanding. If I want this kind of fare, I can always watch Netflix.

That Can't Be The Ending
dauphinstreet6 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Clearly, this feminist soap opera was intended to wrap up in its third season, but I guess nobody at PBS bothered to watch it to the "end."

The characters are likeable enough to keep you watching - especially Anna Wagener as Luisa, who starts out as sort of a Spanish Hyacinth Bucket but with the most successfully written character arc of the show, becomes an increasingly warm and real character.

The lead and catalyst for the drama, Teresa, is less convincing. While a radical feminist for her time (omg, she wears pants!), the beautiful Patricia Lopez just can't stop flirting whether its with her colleagues, her students or just the camera.

But back to that non-ending. It's very unsatisfying to watch nearly two dozed episodes only to see the heroine marched off to jail for a murder she didn't commit.

Shame on you, PBS!
