Here is where we all say good-bye
Back in 2013 when I first heard of this strange women in prison show called "Orange is the new black", the title was strange as the show itself?..however, after watching one episode I got sucked into it and never expected to be the avid fan of it as I did over the years. As I just saw the last season on Netflix, I had no idea this was the final season as it was towards the last two episodes, the last episodes really just got to me and I felt sad and yet also happy for how the show did end for some of the characters. I think this show could have gone at least gone 3 more season to make it to 10 seasons; but its always about the money with either cable channels or streaming media, its always the bottom line and making new shows and ending a show like OITNB was like ending "Game of Thrones".
I read a lot of reviews here; some liked the ending, some hated and mixed, I guess I fall into the mixed category, although I enjoyed the last episodes but what surprised is that original cast that were in the same prison Alex was sent to suddenly showed up in the last episodes and why were the neglected as the cast that made this show what it became.?! This didn't make sense to me?..ever since the big riots and change of prison for Piper and some of the cast moved to the new prison, the show felt was missing a "limb", the new cast didn't add any interest to me and in fact the show took a dive and season 5 and 6 were just close to awful; but I still watched them.
I think what moved the most in the last episode was the scene between Piper and her father about Alex and with her ex-boyfriend; who came out with this narrative about Piper's choices and what Alex meant. What he said to her about her feelings and advised her when he said "What would the new Piper do now"? and what turned out at the end when Piper drove to Ohio to change her life and when showed up to see Alex just blew my mind, because I was pretty sure she was going to be with the other new girl and that was what made this show so great when it came to characters and I guess close to real life, because Piper finally realized she has to make her own choices and regardless of her father or her Ex think about Alex, regardless if Alex is self-destructive; because at the end is about the connect they have and what they know about each other that is really about faith, its not about the cliche "love wins", its about what you feel inside that is right for you.
Piper's ex was correct about one thing that Alex did changer Piper's life by going to prison, but Prison made Alex also grew up to the sheltered life that she had always had with people whom she would never have come in contact with. Very few of us in life take that detour into the dark world where its takes on a journey; where the life we had changes to a life that we didn't expect and a harsh reality that we wake up to but that journey in itself is what makes us who we are and gives us strength to rise again.
Orange is the new black for me will always be among the best written shows, next to "Breaking Bad" and I loved this unknown cast that really created these great characters that we all got to like and dislike and even learn from. So; here is where we all say Good-bye !
