Surprise Me A Lot in a Good Way...
umbertod-7338612 November 2017
I must admitted i was pessimist about this movie before watched in cinema. But after the ending credit i really surprise how this film so so different from teenage romanticism theme out there. The story about abusive boyfriend it's so so rare to picked into cinema. Lala an athlete meets Yudhis who just transferred from another school. They falling in love in instant. When the relationship goes between them, Yudhis real character show up. He is abusive and take control of Lala's life. He wants more and more from Lala. But this film not only offers us that, the relationship between Lala and her father and also Yudhis and his mother mix up our feeling and help us to understand their feeling. Lala father obsessively wants his daughter to be great athlete and Yudhis' mother an abusive one that shaping his character inside. This film just totally surprise me. The soundtrack just lovely with a deep lyrics. Posesif from Edwin for sure one of the best Indonesia film this year. A lot of message to thinking of from this movie. I have already watched twice. The more i think the more i love Lala as a person. Ovearall 8 out 10.

Roller Coaster of Emotion in an Abusive Relationship Themed Movie.
reinaldowilliam81830 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Okay, this movie is turning out better than what I was expecting. The roller coaster feeling when you watch this movie is really thrilling and keeps you wanting more.

So, this is a rather ordinary love story, boy meets girl, they fall in love, blablabla but then something went wrong. Now this is where things take a turn for the worst.

Yudhis (Adipati Dolken) is portrayed perfectly as the abusive boyfriend for Lala (Putri Marino). As I expected, Adipati played his part perfectly, but what interest me more is Putri's Character. She played Lala perfectly, considering she's a newbie to acting, but in this movie, she reflects the truth behind most of abusive relationship, the inability of the victim to get out of it.

Moving on to the supporting cast, Yudhis's Mom (Cut Mini) and Lala's Dad (Yayu A.W. Unru). Now Cut Mini, if you watched most of her movies, she's a full fledged actress and versatile, and in this movie, she proved it once again as the abusive mom that spreads her bad habit to her son. But for Lala's Dad, played by Yayu, I never heard of him, but his acting here is pretty good as the strict dad.

Lala's friend (Griselda Agatha and Chicco Kurniawan) also played perfectly here. They act as the perfect friend, easygoing but at times they also can be reliable, even though they often become the source of Yudhis's bad behavior towards Lala.

The plot itself, from the beginning until almost the middle part of this movie, I think it's a good setup, and when the conflict starts, that's where things get interesting. This movie took the theme of abusive and possessive relationship, a thing that is very common since the dawn of mankind, and this movie take it to the next level. Not gonna spoil too much, but I'll be damned, they spice things up with some twist here and there, how the abusive person can be angry the first second and then begging for forgiveness the next minute. How a manipulative person is doing everything in his power to get what he wants in a relationship.

Other strong aspect in this movie is the song chosen for the background music. "Dan" by Sheila on 7 is the perfect song for this movie, how the lyrics took this movie's atmosphere to a whole new level. Also the next strong point is the cinematography. Beautiful shots of the city and the pool where Lala train for her next championship and the mixture of city and nature is just perfect here.

The rather weak point of this movie is the writing, well it's not that bad per se, but it could be better.

All in all, final verdict is 8/10. I suggest you go watch it if you haven't, you won't regret it.

Quite impressive!

Wow this movie is over my expectation. The connections between the main characters feels so real and so strong. They even have some vlogs on youtube about their daily activities (so extra-in a good way!!). I can't imagine how this theme (jealousy) can be so attractive and enjoy to watch. Putri Marino & Adipati did it well!

Simple but deep

I guess it was such another tv drama. Slow in the beginning but almost all of parts of it seems down-to-earth but deep to understand. I love different good shoot pictures . Good movie for parents & their teenagers to enjoy together.

Exceeded my expectations

First of all, I'm not into cliche love story. I prefer realistic, bittersweet romance movies that are relatable to people life. For the first part of the movie, I got a bit bored honestly. When complication arise, I thought to myself how engaging the story have started to become. It does address actual issues around us, high expectation parents, single parents and finally the realisation that both main characters found at the end of the movie. I got to say, it took me by surprise and glad Netflix has it!

Tackling important subject elegantly
vhandoyo7 June 2020
Toxic relationship is a big deal for teens, and Edwin - the director - is tackling this topic with care, attention to details, and his utmost sensitivity. The movie makes discussions on domestic abuse accessible for many. Don't miss Chicco Kurniawan screen-stealing performance!

Possesssheet
FinnTalks23 March 2021
Posesif offers a predictable cheesy teen romance; it addresses the often-overlooked issue of an abusive relationship, and portrays a seemingly harmless courtship. The idea of how possessive relationship can occur among pubescent teenagers is well delivered but it's handled so poorly, writing wise. The female lead looks like uttering lines instead of really acting throughout the scenes. Aside from its beautiful shots, you'll get to see an utterly lame teen drama; the tedious cliche lines are just really painful to hear.
