Korean specialty distributor D.O. Cinema has picked up local rights to Yuya Ishii’s “All The Things We Never Said,” which is bowing at the virtual edition of the Cannes Market, where it is represented by Hong Kong based sales agent Good Move Media.
“Things We Never Said” stars Taiga Nakano, Wakaba Ryuya and Yuko Oshima and is set for a fall festival bow, before theatrical releases confirmed for China, Japan and now Korea. D.O. specializes in releasing Japanese films in Korea and has previously handled several titles by Ishii (“Tokyo Night Sky Is Always the Densest Shade of Blue” and “The Great Passage”).
Jostling for top ranking on Good Move’s virtual slate is “Me and the Cult Leader,” a documentary about coming to terms with the Sarin gas attack on the Tokyo subway. Directed by Atsushi Sakahara, it had a triumphant world premiere last week at the Sheffield Doc Fest.

New year, and a host of new Netflix additions to match.
While subscribers are currently mourning the loss of Friends – after going dark today, January 1st, the beloved sitcom won’t be available until HBO Max arrives in May – Netflix has today rolled out a bevy of fresh TV shows and movies to keep us entertained, including some truly unmissable horror properties.
From Event Horizon to Cloverfield, The Amityville Horror to the Tremors franchise, Netflix’s horror category has officially been restocked. There’s plenty to choose from, too, including the 2002 rendition of The Ring, which only makes us long for a competent retelling of the Japanese horror legend to right the wrongs of Rings (2017). At least we have the upcoming Grudge reboot to look forward to on Friday (or January 24th if you happen to be located in the United Kingdom).

Filmmakers’ track records and strong content are the prerequisite triggers for Southeast Asian producers to invest in regional independent cinema. That was the strong message conveyed at a panel discussion organized as part of the Singapore International Film Festival’s South East Asian Producers Network on Sunday.
Producer, Shanty Harmayn chief executive of Indonesia’s Base Entertainment, moderated. The panelists included fellow producers Lee Sangchul (TV’s“Clean With Passion For Now”) of C47 Investment, a Singapore-incorporated company that invests mainly in Korean content; Nathan Gunawan of Singapore-Indonesian outfit Phoenix Films; and Chayamporn Taeratanachai of Thailand’s Cinema22.
“Samui Song” was directed by arthouse veteran Pen-Ek Ratanaruang. Prior to directing “By The Time It Gets Dark,” director Anocha Suwichakornpong had considerable global festival exposure and awards for her earlier films including at Cannes, Busan, the Golden Horse and Rotterdam, where she won the Tiger for “Mundane History.”
