The Good, the Bad, and the Low-budget but still interesting
mcgregor-2217125 September 2021
Quite a mixed bag in terms of quality and also my feelings about this film. Some beautiful scenery and cinematography; some fairly good acting; a simplistic plot which touches on some deep issues but not with any great depth; character arcs ranging from fair to what-the-heck.

One role in particular takes a sudden improbable turn that just seems very out of place based on everything up to that point. Another is presented as a hard-core survive-at-any-cost type only to make some remarkably careless errors.

The main character Sam has a certain beauty in her naivete about the world, but it seems incongruous given her assumed upbringing by mother.

For a post-apoc survival film, relatively light hearted up until the last ten minutes when we plunge (a bit too abruptly) into the hinted but veiled-to-now darkness.

I could have given it 7.5 stars, but there was a distinct theme of women good/ men bad, religion bad that, while it was more subtle than most was still predictable and tiresome... a character arc was wrenched violently out of line to fulfill that theme, an ill fit to the story. 6.5 stars.

Decent story but needed more but good ending
coreytegley4 December 2021
Movie is slow but the ending does make up for it a bit. Could have been so much better if they just showed the other people still alive in other camps. If u have nothing else to watch it's OK. A one time watch movie.

Not Bad, But Extremely Frustrating
stevenevans-2859715 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Based on some of the IMDB ratings, I didn't have high hopes for this movie. However, I was in the mood for a movie that has a lonesome atmosphere, and the title, to this movie, easily caught my eye.

This movie isn't boring. It is, however, a typical drama. So if you're expecting an action movie, with car chases, fight scenes, and shootouts, then you'll easily be disappointed. On the other hand, don't be mislead by those who claim that this movie has no plot. It has a plot. It's just a drama, and I suspect that those who said that this movie is boring, probably just don't like dramas.

There are a few things that I like about this movie, and a few things that I find hard to watch.

The movie takes place, years after some global event has occurred. The event has caused an obvious decrease in population and plunges us into a type of dystopian atmosphere, where the technologies that we've become accustomed to, are gone.

The main character is Sam, a young woman who was raised after this event. Unlike the rest of us, she only knows about our current, comfortable, technology-saturated, way of life, by means of stories that she's been told. In her world, there is no internet, no ambulances, 911, etc.

For the most part, I like Sam. Her character has a certain innocence, and the actress plays her very well.

Sam lives in relative isolation with her mother and a sister figure, named Willow. Once Willow becomes seriously injured, Sam is tasked with leaving her home, for the first time, in order to bring back medicine, and face the outside world. During her journey, she meets Dart, a young man who is also on a bit of a journey.

The majority of the movie, isn't bad. I like the interaction between Sam and Dart, as they learn more about each other.

Dart learns that Sam is looking for medicine in the town, from which, he lives. He performs the kind act of getting the medicine, for Sam; preventing her from having to deal with the potentially dangerous people, who live in the town.

However, the movie takes a drastic turn, for the worst, in the last fifteen minutes. Dart, who is a likeable character, up to this point, turns out to be a piece-of-crap human being. We learn that, rather than paying for the medicine, with ammunition that Sam had provided, Dart stole the medicine. He also ends up killing a man, and threatening Sam's mother. His actions are a complete 180, from everything that we had learned about him, before.

What bothers me most, about this drastic shift in Dart's behavior, is that there's no explanation for it. He had no reason to steal the medicine, and then, act as a complete jerk. It's just an abrupt twist, with no valid reason behind it. He has every reason to be good to Sam, since they really seem to be hitting it off. It just doesn't make sense.

Another frustrating aspect, is something that I've found in other movies.

At one point, Sam and Dart have a conversation about God and religion. They raise popular questions, but there's no one there to give them concrete answers. So it's like watching the blind lead the blind. As a Christian, this is always extremely frustrating to watch. People talk about issues, and ask questions, as if they're questions which have no real answers. However, when you know the answers, it's extremely frustrating to watch.

Overall, this isn't a bad movie; although it does get very frustrating. But the reality is that, if I were going to recommend a movie to someone who is looking for that lonesome atmosphere, there are certainly better movies out there. "I Think We're Alone Now", starring Peter Dinklage, is a great example. I'd easily recommend that movie, over this one.

Simplistic
justahunch-7054912 May 2022
Very low budget film about, yet again, the end of civilization. Despite it's budget, some of it is quite cleverly done and the acting is pretty good. However, some of the writing is not very logical which is pretty necessary when filming with little money. This is a very forgettable film that might not have been with better writing, especially for the lead character's behavior and motivations or worse, her seeming to forget their importance from time to time.

Micro budget micro acting
rmmil26 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The glowing reviews here are fake. Guaranteed. They don't even specifically say anything about this film, it's just generic positivity with nothing specific to this particular film.

On that note, what I will say I liked about this film is the opening narration. Did a good job setting up the scene.

The film itself is a zero budget movie with no one you've ever heard of before, which is fine in and of itself, amateur actors can be "good", but other than the lead and her male friend, the rest of the acting is "extremely" amateurish.

Also, while low budget films can be good, too low a budget should not attempt certain genres unless they can be very inventive. 28 Days Later, these film makers were not.

The plot line is very straightforward and probably too simple for a full length film, this would've been better as a short, it was not worth the time I spent watching it.

Showcase
bemyfriend-401842 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I think this movie was meant to serve as a showcase. It is supposed to show the talents, and abilities of all involved in the making of this film. As a showcase, it's great. All of the actors did a fine job; as did those doing the technical parts. As for how much I liked it... five. It is a drama; so the action is in showing emotion. And there are too many bad things happening at once. We get hit with a ton of negative emotions; and for our reward, a shot of the girl wearing a backpack, and talking about finding what's out there. Seen on Tubi, the free streaming site; which has many indie films, foreign films, older major studio films; and now, live TV.

Awful Movie, Skip It Please
italianpride1731 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Idiotic waste of time.

Want to know how bad this movie is? I'll give you one scene that will really make my point.

Main girls mom gets shot and she let's the guy who did it get away without killing him because she stupidly think she loved him at some point. It's really sad that the movie industry keeps pumping these movies out that make women look so weak physically and mentally.

A UNIQUE VIEW OF A POST-APOCALYPTIC LIFE!
plasmapilot22 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This film is unusual in that it reveals details of life before modern technology ceased to exist! The memories shared by a young woman born after a cataclysmic world event are touching & gleaned from books & her mother's teachings. This perspective offers a glimpse at an unfamiliar life that the protagonist "remembered " and may have yearned for, while learning how to survive within her current situation! Great twist on an often overdone genre!

lilpest921 April 2022
Was pretty well presented survival story. Turned off when (what I assume is)the male lead appeared. Did not want, was not the movie thought it would be.

First like 20 minutes is a 10 then becomes 1/10.

barbnoel-7149017 May 2021
I love all the surprises in this movie, definitely not predictable all the way through it.

Sam is amazing, strong and likable and the church scene is awesome with Dart and Sam. I finished watching the movie with lots of questions and it gave you a lot to ponder. The narration makes the movie, I loved it!!!

Okay first of all, i watched this a little while ago and was telling my friend about it but i forgot the title. Im so glad i finally found it! Though it explores the tired end of the world trope, i didn't mind, because it did it so well. The scenes are beautiful and i loved how it used collages to narrate the story. I do wish, however that the relationship with the main character and the friend was explored further. Will definitely be on the lookout for other movies by this director!!
