A Stratospheric Hit

One of the greatest moments in music history, "Sexual Healing" is one of the most successful hits in the R&B and soul genres, one of Marvin Gaye's greatest accomplishments, and sadly his last hit. With his poetic and sexual exciment who conquered a new brand of fans and kept the ones he already had because it's the kind of song that can conquer almost anybody - it took some time to have some effect on me but it worked. And gotta admit that the music video, his only (I think) during the video craze era was responsible for such positive effect.

Part classy and part corny, the video presents Gaye performing the song escorted by two female backing vocals each by his side and because of the tuxedo he's wearing it gives the impression of him being a James Bond type of character. Along with their act, there's some acting moments where Gaye does a check-up at a hospital, he's not too well but when a sexy female doctor comes along to check his pressure and make medical examination things turn out for the better. It's a little cheesy in terms of acting and presentation but it truly sells the song's idea, therefore it works.

A rhythm and a game that hasn't been equaled. Many have tried but failed badly while trying to recreate a similar feeling, both on music and video. A true class act. 9/10.
