The only thing nice about this movie are the girls. They fine as hell. Everything else is gabbage. From cinematography, to acting, to story, to soundtrack, to cast, to even the special effects used. Wack!

Warning: Spoilers
It was alright for its target audience but not me. I like movies that are somewhat like this but with more bloodshed. This was closer to thug life stuff. I also really didn't like the ending where Candy's friend betrayed her. I like betrayal but not betrayal of the main character unless it is resolved later on, it's like they just wanted to get the movie over with as soon as possible. I could watch it once but I don't think I would watch it again. The start was also a bit clickbaity, they were in a strip club but nobody at any point of the movie was actually a stripper or had any relation to a strip club. Also also, I didn't like the cuts in death scenes, that is, again, because I like bloodshed in movies.
This is a movie that with a better team could have been worthwhile

Candy (2017) is a movie I recently watched on Prime and tells the story of four Houston based best friends in the city who smuggle drugs and make lots of cash. As they get bigger and better and start to expand they look to execute their biggest move yet; unfortunately for them, one of the ladies has a new boyfriend and gets addicted to heroine. It might be a bad time to not be on your A game and there may quickly be a change in fortune for the ladies. This movie is directed by Nahala Johnson (Dominos: The Game We Play) and stars Sheneka Adams (Brotherly Love), Anthony Johnson (Friday), Kendrick Smith (Because I Love You) and Scarface (Narc). The strip club opening and the actresses in this are absolutely magnificent. The dialogue between characters isn't bad and the narration by the main character isn't terrible but isn't great either. The directing, quality of the film and cinematography are just okay and the ending of the movie is ridiculous. It sets up to be a great tragedy piece, but falls short. There are some twists at the end that could have been really good if executed better. This is a movie that with a better team could have been worthwhile. Overall this is a below average addition to the genre you can skip. I would score this a 3/10.

It is what it is, a hood film.
TokyoGyaru1 January 2021
While not on the level of a classic blaxploitation or a newer classic 90s hood film, it's just about what you could expect from a 2000s-era hood film. The acting isn't great but passable. The cast is diverse, and the women are attractive with beautiful figures (but not a single man is attractive in any way).
I usually don't watch these kinds of films, but I do like Pam Grier blaxploitation films, and the streaming service I watched Candy on has so many black films that I thought I'd give it a shot. I thought I'd just skim through it, but I actually ended up being entertained by it enough to watch until the end. It's not going to win any awards for accomplished filmmaking or acting, but it doesn't have to. It was just passable enough to be entertaining. It's like an expanded, non-musical version of a YT trap tale. It's fine; not great, just fine.

Gangsta Life

Don't be fooled by the poster/cover - the artwork that is being displayed here at imdb. It is a clever trick one might say to catch the attention of a few people (mainly the male audience). Do not expect the movie to reflect that.
Also this is low budget, so do not expect this to have big .. visuals. What it does have though, is a really cool soundtrack. If you are into the music that is. Also be aware that there are a lot of profanities being used. It is depicting people and how they would talk. In that sense it is quite real. Still there are many scenes that are unnecessary to the story or plot.
You have to suspend your disbelief quite a bit to be able to enjoy this. The twist towards the end might help - but it also might be too clever for its own good. Performances are a mixed bag ... you'll get some goodies during the end credits, including outtakes.

Urban. Niche market. Now can you believe these women will, with all professional skill; be able to rob lifelong gangsta's at gunpoint? Their male pride alone would cause them to fight back. Now some men might be clumsy and slow, true. But many are very fast and strong. So when these flabby women point them guns, those fast, strong kinda black men's hands would just flash out; and grab those women's soft wrists. Then where would they be? But it's just a movie. And the music was actually kinda good. More like Jamaican dancehall, than gangsta rap. Real relaxing music. Very fine.

All these bad reviews and I can't figure out why. I was skeptical when I read all these reviews but figured I would watch it anyway. The acting is on par with the budget, not the greatest but I've seen worse, but I mean that's to be expected. Not really a lot of action and the killings are done off screen. The plot is probably the more solid part of the movie, if you watch it until the end you will see what I mean. I wasn't sure what to expect with this but I think that was a blessing because I was able to enjoy it. Also another strong suit of this movie is the narration by the main character Candy (Sheneka Adams) was done well. The director did a good job and so did the actors for a low budget movie. It's actually refreshing to watch different actors given the "stars" we have in Hollywood now. 8 stars for the whole project.
