This episode opens in Jordan with a man being beaten to death by people demanding his passport. Back in Sweden Beck, who has retired from the police, is asked to help the National Security Police investigate an Arabic Swede who is suspected of joining ISIS before returning to Sweden. His parents are adamant that while his brother may have been radicalised he wasn't. Meanwhile Beck's former colleagues are investigating the disappearance of a young woman who just happened to in an on-off relationship with the man Beck is investigating. As the investigation continues policeman Steinar Hovland will follow a lead to Jordan that drastically changes assumptions causing the police to prepare for a terrorist attack.
This episode marked a welcome return for Beck; after his retirement I'd assumed we'd seen the last of him. The story itself was decent but didn't feel all that original... just about every crime drama series seems to have at least one episode linked to Middle Eastern terrorism these days. There are some twists although I suspect most viewers will see them coming. While the story could have been a bit stronger it was still fun to watch thanks to the characters; it is almost worth watching for the scenes between Beck and his neighbour alone; Peter Haber and Ingvar Hirdwall are great in these scenes. Kristofer Hivju is also rather fun as Steinar. Overall this isn't the best episode in the series but fans should enjoy it.
