Larry Fessenden (Wendigo, Habit, Depraved) is back with a new werewolf horror movie titled Blackout, and THR reports today that it’s found a home at Dark Sky Films.
Dark Sky Films has acquired North American rights to Blackout, and they’re aiming to release Fessenden’s latest in theaters and on Digital outlets in the first quarter of 2024.
Blackout marks the second pairing of Glass Eye Pix, the New York production shingle headed by Fessenden, and Yellow Veil Pictures, having previously collaborated successfully on world sales for Fessenden’s 2019 Depraved, which was released by IFC Midnight in the US.
The film follows small town artist Charley (Alex Hurt), a tortured man whose drinking binges blur with his sneaking suspicion that he might likely be a werewolf. As with Depraved, writer-director Larry Fessenden returns to the world of classic, Universal-inspired monsters in Blackout. Whereas that title brought the mythos of Frankenstein’s monster (and its ample room for social commentary) into the present-day, this latest update shifts focus towards the so-called “wolfman.”
How does knowing he potentially killed innocent people affect Charley (Alex Hurt)? How can he keep pretending his life is simple and his love (with Addison Timlin’s Sharon) pure when a cloud of uncertain violence looms above the three-day nightly windows he cannot remember each month? Because while his actually being a werewolf is presented with enough ambiguity to make the truth part of the intrigue, Fessenden pulls no punches insofar as making certain we know Charley is at fault. He sees glimpses of his victims’ faces and, as an artist, paints them to try severing their hold. So while he might not be...

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck, who split in 2015 after nearly 10 years of marriage, are still united as coparents to their three kids. All three are typically kept out of the public eye, save for a few events, such as Garner's Hollywood Star ceremony in 2018.
In a 2019 interview with InStyle, Garner opened up about her decision to keep her kids out of the spotlight and off social media. "I guard my kids' privacy as much as I possibly can, and I've never posted pictures of them on Instagram," she said. "I used to refuse to say their names during interviews - but everyone knows their names! I would just say 'my eldest,' which I still do out of habit a lot," she continued. Country music has been going through some changes these past several years. Some artists, including Maren Morris and Brandi Carlile, are leading the cause for building a more inclusive industry. According to these singers, this might have created two different country music worlds.
Maren Morris and Brandi Carlile have spoken out against other country artists

Morris and Carlile are outspoken about wanting more representation for women, people of color, and LGBTQ folks in country music. Because of this, they often stand against artists with more traditional, conservative views.

“There is a place in hell reserved for women who don’t support other women,” she said, in an apparent reference to Chia, according to The Daily Mail.
Despite the seemingly ill feelings toward her ex and his partner, Shakira says that now she has “more confidence” in herself, and that she has become a “lioness” for her two children.
“I bought that story, that a woman needed a man to complete herself. I also had that dream of a family where the children had a mum and dad under the same roof,” she said.

TV vet Ben McKenzie (The O.C., Southland, Gotham) is plotting a TV comeback via the ABC medical drama pilot The Hurt Unit, TVLine has confirmed.
From Promised Land creator Matt Lopez and ex-Seal Team showrunner John Glenn, the potential series is described as a “cutting-edge medical drama about a highly skilled team of trauma surgeons and nurses who race into the field to treat the patients who won’t make it to the hospital in time. When the sick and the injured can’t get to the ER, the Hurt Unit (Hospital Urgent Response Team) brings the ER to them.

Sometimes, even the smallest of emotional stakes in a movie can feel monumental. Writer/director Nicole Holofcener accomplished exactly that with the Sundance Film Festival 2023 dramedy You Hurt My Feelings. Her screenplay keeps its plot to the basics, carrying a straight-forward narrative about a deeply relatable topic.
‘You Hurt My Feelings’ is an examination of small-time marital woes Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Beth | A24
Beth (Veep‘s Julia Louis-Dreyfus) is a novelist in New York teaching writing courses on the side. She finally submitted a book that she has been working on for the last couple of years that follows up her somewhat successful memoir. Meanwhile, her husband, Don (Outlander‘s Tobias Menzies) works as a therapist, whose clients stopped respecting him after he couldn’t find a reason to care about their problems anymore.
Don confides in Beth’s brother-in-law, Mark (Arian Moayed), that he actually doesn’t like her new book very much.

Johnny Cash made a name for himself as a country music star, and traditional gospel hymns were some of the earliest songs he learned. He once said his favorite album was his record of songs from his mother’s hymn book. Yet Cash praised heavy metal bands and included them on the list of music he appreciated. The Man in Black called out would-be music censors stalking the warpath in the 1980s.

Rick Rubin helped revive Cash’s career in the 1990s. The producer reached out to the country music legend with a simple request — play the songs you want to play. Their collaboration led to a series of albums titled after Rubin’s record label, American Recordings.
The first record, American Recordings, included Cash’s cover of punk/metal star Glenn Danzig’s “Thirteen.

A devastating couplet is every pop star’s secret weapon. Whether it’s Morrissey grumbling about having to go to bed with nothing but a Sylvia Plath anthology for warmth or Kate Bush crooning sweet nothings-that-are-actually-dark-somethings lyrics illuminate and elevate a song. Words bring clarity and drama, opening a secret passage to an artist’s internal life.
Or that is at least the case when they transcend mere bubble-gum and strain for grandeur. The power of a musician’s words has been acknowledged of late in surprising places. Bob Dylan, who once wrote “Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a gypsy queen/Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle all dressed in green”, was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2016, while rapper Kendrick Lamar won a 2018 Pulitzer prize for his supremely literate Damn album.
Here, then, is a thoroughly unscientific but completely from the heart list of the greatest lyrics ever. They run from the clever to the overblown,...

Fresh off of its original seven-episode British run on BBC One, Adam Kay’s black comedy-drama “This is Going to Hurt” arrives on AMC this week, ready to give American audiences a taste of its wicked wit. Based on his nonfiction comedy novel of the same name, ‘Hurt’ brings a unique perspective to the UK medical scene circa 2006, providing a hearty dose of sociopolitical commentary in between bone-dry humor and painfully relatable interpersonal drama.

On Monday’s “The Late Show,” Stephen Colbert kicked things off with a cold open gag inspired by the recent uproar over Spotify’s deal with podcaster Joe Rogan, because of the the huge amount of factually incorrect information about vaccines and Covid-19 featured on his show.
The gag was simple: A Spotify playlist where each selected song formed part of a sentence advancing lies about Covid-19 vaccines.
Of course, if you need a quick catch up: Last week Neil Young removed his music from Spotify in protest of Rogan. The same week, more than 200 scientists and medical experts released an open letter urging Spotify to quit promoting vaccine misinformation. And on Friday, Joni Mitchell announced she would be removing her music from Spotify to show solidarity with Young.
This has resulted in Spotify taking a huge stock market hit, and now it says it will add content warnings to podcasts touching on Covid.

It started out as an attempt to portray a story of a wife who commits adultery as revenge against her husband, who cheated on her first. However, I felt that if the husband and wife directly clashed with each other,...

On May 11, Arlo Parks took to the Brit Awards stage to perform a stripped-back rendition of her latest track, "Hope." The singer's performance began with a digital projection, featuring poetic words of hope and positivity on the screen, before Parks emerged in a metallic three-piece suit, surrounded by sunflowers. Parks' debut album, Collapsed in Sunbeams, released this year, and featured "Hope" as the latest single, following "Caroline," "Hurt," and "Eugene."
Other performers of the night included the likes of Dua Lipa, Brit rising star Griff, The Weeknd, Coldplay, Olivia Rodrigo, Headie One, and a special performance of "It's A Sin" by Olly Alexander and Sir Elton John, plus a performance from Rag 'n' Bone Man and P!Nk, featuring the NHS Greenwich choir.

MSNBC host Joe Scarborough called for the arrest of Donald Trump, his son Donald Trump Jr., and lawyer Rudy Giuliani for their roles in inciting the “insurrection” attempt at the Capitol Wednesday.
“Are we a nation of laws, or are we a nation of one man? Donald J. Trump called for the insurrection against the United States of America. He called for it. Rudy Giuliani called for combat justice just an hour or two before this happened. Donald Trump Jr. said ‘We are coming for you,'” Scarborough said on Thursday’s episode.

Love it or hate it, one of the things that makes the Marvel Cinematic Universe work is the long term synergy. With Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, over a decade of movies came together to pull off one of the most entertaining spectacles of our time. It’s a universe that, for the most part, feels consistent and it builds on itself as each movie feels like an essential cog in a larger machine.
Some cogs are bigger than the others, though, and when it comes to “the others,” one can’t help but notice that 2008’s Incredible Hulk is something of a black sheep in the Marvel movie roster. These days, they’re just starting to dust it off as a property with the return of Tim Roth’s Abomination in She-Hulk and William Hurt’s General Ross’ gradually increasing role in the universe itself (he’ll appear...

1. “Bridgerton” Season 1
Why Should I Watch? Starring “Derry Girls” icon Nicola Coughlan and featuring Julie Andrews as a narrator named Lady Whistledown, Shonda Rhimes’ first Netflix original series already has three solid gold reasons to try out the hipper, hotter version of “Downton Abbey,” but here are a few more details. The period drama is based on Julia Quinn’s historical romance novels, where Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), the eldest daughter of the powerful Bridgerton family, makes her debut onto Regency London’s competitive marriage market. But the eight-book series obviously needs more than just one character’s love story to fill all those pages, so you can expect to see the other Bridgerton children caught up in romantic entanglements of their own.
Bonus Reason: A sexy period drama from the mind behind “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal” that’s also an adaptation of a massively popular book series where all...

So said an Academy member when I asked about Martin Scorsese’s recent New York Times opinion piece in which he doubled down on his criticism of Marvel movies. The Oscar winner became director non grata among superhero fans last month for telling Empire magazine that Marvel Cinematic Universe films are “not cinema.”
In the Empire piece, Scorsese said: “Honestly, the closest I can think of them, as well made as they are, with actors doing the best they can under the circumstances, is theme parks. It isn’t the cinema of human beings trying to convey emotional, psychological experiences to another human being.”
After being scorched on social media, he could have let it go by simply explaining the McU isn’t his celluloid cup of tea.
Instead, he wrote a nearly 1,500-word op-ed defending his beliefs while continuing to bash the McU.

When Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’ record-breaking “Old Town Road” was presented with the Cma Award for the off-camera category Musical Event of the Year on Wednesday, it was historic for a few reasons. For starters, it marks the first Cma win for Atlanta-based rapper-singer Lil Nas X, as well as the first in 27 years for “Achy Breaky Heart” star Cyrus. Perhaps even more surprising, though, is that the “Old Town Road” win also earns Nine Inch Nails leader Trent Reznor his first Cma Award for production, an...

When Trent Reznor first heard “Old Town Road,” he was surprised. The song used a short section of banjo from “34 Ghosts IV,” a track off of Nine Inch Nails’ mostly instrumental 2008 album Ghosts I–IV that Lil Nas X and producer YoungKio had souped up with trap beats and an unforgettable chorus. Hearing his music out of context, Reznor’s gut reaction was less critical than visceral.
