Oh my gawd, guys. Just oh my gawd. This episode was just shocking. Thank goodness that I wasn't drinking anything, or I would've spit all over the television in surprise. Now, basically in this episode, the Loud kids find a love letter in the mail signed for L. Loud. As it could be for any of them, they try to see who it's from.
Just this episode....oh my gawd. Going in, I had the sinking suspicion that the letter was going to be for Lynn Loud Sr. for whatever reason, and of course, that's who it's for. Which is kind of weird as I haven't really seen any parents give each other love letters. My parents never did; they just met each other at Wal-Mart, and that's it. No romantic setting, flowers, or whatever. Just a mundane day. But it's the ending that caught me by surprise. Given how some may not have seen the episode yet, I won't say what it is. But my thoughts on the matter amount to this: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZdzCR_7RR60). My gawd....my jaw literally dropped to the ground in astonishment. I had theorized on this topic for about half a year, but I never thought that it would become canon. Just oh my gawd....I am so happy about this twist. My heart nearly dropped a beat when I saw that my theory was correct, just...wow. Now, I know that some fans may not feel the same way on this subject as I do, but I feel that the revelation works here. Honestly, there were some hints towards this idea already, but what I ultimately feel is that some fans of the show could possibly relate to the character in question if they felt that they would be shunned for who they liked. I mean, the show introduces the McBride family and treat them as if they're a normal, functional family. But they're supporting characters; here, I feel that fans could relate to one of the leading characters if they shared the same feelings that said character does. As for whether it was forced...I would personally say no, because I personally predicted that this was the case. As for others, yeah I understand if this does come off as forced, but I will say that the Loud House isn't the first show to do something like this. For example, Steven Universe has two canonically lesbian characters; Garnet and Pearl, and the show handles it well. They don't force you to believe their feelings in any way; they almost feel human in their relationships. Pearl loved Rose because she saw her as more than just a simple pearl, even to the point that she chose to rebel with her despite knowing that they would be fugitives from Homeworld. And Garnet is a literal fusion of two gems if that goes without saying. Overall, I'm fine with the twist as long as they do it in a way that matches the McBrides; as in, not having to feel that they need to say it.
Overall, a great episode; it was funny, and the twist was genuinely surprising. Let's just hope that One Million Moms doesn't boycott Nickelodeon for this........
