The eponymous Cantopop theme song went platinum in Hong Kong in 1980, with sales of more than 30,000 records.
Politicians such as Financial Secretary Anthony Leung and PRC premier Zhu Rongji (in 2002), and Zhang Xiaoming - Beijing's top representative in Hong Kong (in 2016), referenced the show and song lyrics during speeches.
The show takes its name from Lion Rock, a mountain which overlooks major residential areas of Hong Kong, so-called because it resembles a crouching lion.
The theme song has become an unofficial anthem of Hong Kong.
The show has rated highly in annual Programme Appreciation Index Survey rankings since their inception.
