Gogol was originally released in Russian theaters as a trilogy of 3 feature films. The 3 films were then combined and adapted to create the TV Series.
American film director John Woo, who is known for large-scale action films The Killer, Face/Off, Mission Impossible 2 and Paycheck called Gogol, "The best foreign TV Series", during the Indie Gathering International Film Festival.
Gogol is loosely based on the surrealist writings of Russian author Nikolai Gogol.
The series composer of the project, Ryan Otter, won a prestigious international music award for his work at the Global Music Awards.
