Don Keyote or Donkey ote, that's the question

One can interpret the title of "Donkeyote" in two different ways.

The first way is the interpretation as "Don Keyote", associating the film with "Don Quichotte" (1937, Georg Wilhelm Pabst) after the story of Miguel de Cervantes. In my opinion this interpretation is not entirely satisfying. Main character Manolo maybe stubborn, but he is not a fool and doesn't fight windmills.

The second interpretation is "Donkey ote", associating the film with "Au hasard Balthazar" (1966, Robert Bresson). Also this interpretation is not entirely satisfactory because the film is told from the perspective of the human (Manolo) and not from the perspective of the donkey.

The association I liked most of all was the association with "The Straight story" (1999, David Lynch). Both films are road movies using a slow vehicle (a lawn mower in "The Straight story" and a donkey in "Donkeyote"). In both movies the main character is 73 years old. In "The Straight story" the main character has difficulties adapting to the modern world. In "Donkeyote" the modern world has difficulties adapting to the main character.
