Wall Street analysts on Wednesday weighed in on AMC Theatres' historic agreement with Universal Pictures that will allow the studio's movies to be made available on premium video-on-demand after just 17 days of play in cinemas, including three weekends.
The deal, which initially covers AMC's U.S. locations, shatters the traditional theatrical window of nearly three months before studios can make movies available in the home. The partners didn't detail financial terms, but AMC, the world's largest theater chain, is expected to share in the revenue from PVOD.

The Doughtlander may be over, but with its end comes a wave of high viewer expectations thanks to certain literary deviations that have raised major questions for the show’s characters heading into Season 5. So what better way to kick it all off than with some flashbacks and a wedding?
“Outlander’s” Season 5 opener, “The Fiery Cross”, managed to delve further into Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Murtagh’s (Duncan Lacroix) past while also exploring Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and Roger’s (Richard Rankin) evolving relationship, making good on the show’s earlier promise to place the family drama front and center this season.
Following the Red Coats’ order that Jamie assemble an army to track and kill Murtagh, the episode opened with a flashback scene to just after Jamie’s mother had died. There, Murtagh re-pledged his oath to always protect his godson, setting up what would be decades of fatherly...

WarnerMedia executives unveiled new details about HBO Max on Wednesday at the TCA 2020 Winter Press Tour, clarifying that all legacy and current HBO content will be available on the service alongside a dizzying array of television shows and films from the AT&T-owned company’s myriad brands.
WarnerMedia executives previously said HBO’s full library would be available on HBO Max during the streaming service’s initial reveal last October, but questions of current show access have dogged the service — which will co-exist alongside the similar-sounding HBO, HBO Now, and HBO Go — since then. HBO Max Chief Content Officer Kevin Riley, Head of Original Content Sarah Aubrey, and Executive Vice President of Content Acquisitions Michael Quigley took the stage to clear the air and discuss some of the shows that will be exclusive to the streaming service, which will have offer an option for subscribers to filter all non-hbo content.

Stephen King is at the center of backlash after discussing on social media how he goes about voting for the Academy Awards. The horror author is a member of the Academy’s writing branch and therefore is permitted to vote for nominations in three categories: Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Original Screenplay. The Academy has been widely criticized this week for its predominantly white 2020 Oscar nominations. King shared on Twitter a day after the Oscar noms were announced that he selects nominees based on quality and not diversity.
“For me, the diversity issue — as it applies to individual actors and directors, anyway — did not come up,” King wrote. “That said, I would never consider diversity in matters of art. Only quality. It seems to me that to do otherwise would be wrong.”
King’s comments were widely criticized, most notably by “When They See Us” filmmaker Ava DuVernay.
