Not very realistic
leen-moelker-118 April 2021
I didn't quit watching this movie, but the unrealistic characters - people who don't speak a common used language, an engineer who obviously wasn't prepared for her new task - made me feel dissatisfied about the message, meaning and the incredibility of this film.

Silly story

It's a little too much of everything and Terneuzen might be in a more rural area, it's only 1,5 hours away from Rotterdam and there still live approx 55.000 people. So, all in all, it's not like she is actually in a really small village where you run into the same people all the time... also they don't live there like in the nineties or so. And how can she live in a very expensive modern apartment in Rotterdam and drive a really old car?

Unrealistic story, obnoxious main character
aai-2819616 December 2018
The main character has a very average executive job, as does her boyfriend. Yet they live in a million euro apartment. Then she gets a transfer to Terneuzen and she doesn't seem to know where this is. She spends an entire day driving there. In reality it's only an hour and a half.

These facts aside, she is rude and unpleasant to the people in her new town. Very unlikable character. She thinks it's okay to insult people just because they don't match her high horse standard. Bleh.

Doesn't happen often that I quit watching a movie, but this was unwatchable.

In the spirit of New in town

Fun Dutch romantic comedy that keeps you watching and smiling. Just enough awkwardness and just enough feels in it.

So bad it's not even funny

Warning: Spoilers
I have a weakness for very cheesy romantic Dutch films that are terrible. Because they are always so awful and cliché you just have to laugh. This film... Unfortunately does not have that (lack of) quality. The main character is basically the worst person ever to walk the earth. Her being unsympathetic takes up most of the film. In the end of course she learns a valuable lesson, but even during this process you just want to smack her in the face with an ironing board. It also has all the toxic tropes every Dutch film for women has: the main character is to be celebrated for her behaviour but the men are supposed to be the bad guys because of the exact same behaviour. Did I mention the main character is the worst person ever? This film could be saved only with her funeral at the end, but it's someone else's...

Saw all the Dutch romantic comedies. This one is the best. Take it from me; I know what I'm talking about.
