A fun and original K-Drama
rosaliesummers25 July 2017
Our story begins telling the 'greatest love story' of Princess Pyeonggang and OnDal. We then cut to modern day, on a film set, creating a new take on the old love story. Soo-Jung is starring as the princess, however when something is changed in the script and she doesn't know about it, she throws a huge tantrum. And so we are introduced to our main character; a stubborn and easily provoked actress, known as Korea's 'top star'. Due to certain events she drives off in her car and is magically transported back to the past into the time of the Princess and OnDal, and must figure out how to return to the present whilst trying to deal with love and war.

The best thing about My Only Love Song was definitely the characters. Soo-Jung, OnDal, Sam-Yong, and Il-Yong were all hilarious. A few of the characters I found annoying were the princess and the two guys who fawned over Il-Yong but overall the characters were great. The flashbacks in the final episode really showed how much the characters had changed over the course of the series, especially Soo-Jung, which was enjoyable to see. Soo-Jung (Seung-Yeon Kong) was the sassy main character, and although she's a terrible person, in the first few episodes at least, you just can't help but love her, especially when you start to peel away her tough exterior. Sam-Yong is the small innocent character that just needs to be protected and he' so cute. OnDal seems cocky and sure of himself, but he's actually very lonely and needs support. Il-Yong, the antagonist, is ridiculously in love with himself and a bit of a wimp but he's still twisted and sadistic.

The plot I thought was fairly original, as I personally haven't seen any time-travel K- Dramas myself. A few plot twists occurred throughout the series, although not all of them made sense and were not really explained. The best by far though was near the end when we discover the truth about the OnDal in the story and everything clicks into place! It also keeps you guessing which character will end up with who, and there is plenty of laughs and tears to be had along the way. The scene with the flowers and 'apologising in advance' is by far the cutest and will rip your heart out with feels. Because I'm a nerd and did some research about the original story about the princess and OnDal afterwards and I love that they kept so many details the same, for example, OnDal was known as 'the idiot' or 'the fool', so the show subtly referenced this by having Soo-Jung call him 'dumb OnDai' lots, which I thought was cool.

Other things: I was surprised by the special effects as they were very inconsistent. One minute they were really great and looked amazing and the next I was crying with laughter at how shockingly bad they were. The music was average, it didn't particularly stand out for me. I really like the whole design of both costumes and setting, I don't know how accurate they were but they were very aesthetically pleasing, especially the natural locations such as the huge river with the rocks.

Overall, My Only Love Song is a fun and dramatic K-Drama, the only real downside being a few plot inconsistencies. If you're a K-Drama fan it's definitely worth watching but if you're new to K-Drama then you might find it a bit weird and want something a little more normal to ease you in to the genre.

A mood lifter.

This movie absolutely has no logic. But somehow wrapped up pretty much okay. It also doesn't have too much complexity and its hilarious. The chemistry between two leads are lovey dovey beyond believe. It's clingy too, rather in a good way. Oh ya, please put your brain in the freeze before watching this, you won't need that one while watching. Ah, and the actor didn't hold it even a bit while ...., how should I put it in good words, showing his love towards the actress. So it has pretty steamy kissing scene!

Awkward ending but entertaining still

Warning: Spoilers
It is outlander-ish with time travel elements. Soo-jung who is played by Gong Seung-yeon, is a full of herself, prima donna who most people find painful to deal with. She winds up time traveling in this crazy volkswagon bus to the 6th Century in one of the three Kingdoms in Korea. There she meets On-dal (Lee Jong-hyun) who, legend has it, is to marry the princess. The VW has a mind of its own so it is not controlled time travel and it continues to drop them off in interesting situations. Through it they fall for each other but Soo-jung must worry, knowing what she knows, will following her heart mess with history? It was good and kept me watching but t felt like their was a lot of build up for a very rushed ending. It was worth watching but there is one place where it did fall a bit short of the mark.

Lets make one more love song

Not my first ever K drama but definitely my first ever most cherished one. It has the pull which made my smile intact all the way from first to the last episode and left me craving for one more serving. A cast you can't help but fall in love. A lead pair who are made for each other. All in all, just go for the fun ride. Its worth spending few hours to watch this beautiful creation. Lee Jong Hyun and Gong Seung Yeon, I am going to follow you two all the way. Love.

Great for Binge-Watching, Time Travel Genre Lovers & Immersing On-Screen Chemistry
maisugarcookie27 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
❤Spoiler Alert❤

Aaah...time travel, one of my favourite genres :) One of the best on-screen chemistry I have seen, which makes the love story between On Dal and Su-Jeong (aka Nannyeon) so immersing. I also love that the writer matched everyone together, I always felt that these kinds made the best dramas. I was afraid that the ending would disappoint, much like Rooftop Prince. Thankfully, the love story was given justice with an equally beautiful ending and did not disappoint. I would love a Season 2, this time with a modern premise focusing Su-Jeong & On Dal in it :) and all my favourite characters - Su-Jeong + On Dal, Sam-Yong + Gwang-Nyeo, Moo-Myung + Pyeong-Gang ❤

✒🚐BONG BONG Sing A Song ... Say What!?! ..... Drop It Down....OH, yeah.....👍🏽 °8.7° °Outstanding° 💯%🔍

This show is seriously funny, especially the first half, so... Drop in!

I had just watched Live Up To Your Name-7.6 which involves time travel to/from the Joseon period, so redundancy was a concern. Turns out, there was no need to worry, tee-hee.

There's nothing novel about entertainment features that portray time travel to a romanticized past era, anyway. Not only is the contrast between different cultures fascinating, but the fact that people are the same, no matter the circumstances, resonates.

Did I say fascinating? Not on this show. This show displays that the differences are HILARI🤣US.

What's so funny, you ask? Driving a big van through a cramped Joseon shopping district- after beheading the "monster" (the van) didn't work. Pulling out a 99cent lighter and causing panic. Teaching the Joseans "2 thumbs up👍🏽," drinking games, or slang. Fine, it's all been done before, but this show reaches into the backseat and pulls out the laughs. It's all giggles until a misplaced history book almost wipes out Korea entirely. Oh my. What should we do?

The van, Bong-Bong, is the most intelligent of the characters. Bong-Bong clearly has an agenda, and drives the plot, ahem.

Speaking of characters, we have the petulant actress, the greedy flimflam artist, the Mute Ninja who communicates with his mind, the escaped princess, the villain (a narcissist in full bloom), and more.

I loved this corny little show. The episodes are all just 30 minutes, so each one is its own brief escape. Bong-Bong may take me anywhere. Let him (yes, Bong-Bong is a male, even though On-dal calls him 'my lady' throughout) anyway, let him take you through 20 fun filled episodes. You won't want to return!

You have reached your destination.

Good enough
PennyReviews21 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
A short drama to watch, that is both funny and romantic, but there isn't much in the plot. The performances were okay, and probably that was the reason why this one didn't flop, as the story was odd and kind of idiotic at some point. But, at least, the drama was entertaining, it had it's funny moments and the romance was okay, as the couple had chemistry. The ending, in addition, as a bit of a wrap up and it wasn't as much of a conclusion to the story and that left out many unanswered questions. The constant flash backs, as well, were tiring and boring, making the episodes longer, sure, but not adding anything to the actual story. So, 4 out of 10.

Hilarious!

One seriously hilarious K-drama! Although it is a bit predictable at times & the editing can be cheesy, the acting is good & storyline is easy to follow.

Both leads have a good chemistry together & the supporting cast is believable & likeable. The villain very nearly steals the show!

I give it 9 stars out of 10, 1 star off for the rather abrupt ending & constant rewinding throughout the show.

Overall, a very easy series to binge watch which can be completed within 10 hours or less. A great, thoroughly entertaining drama series with a memorable soundtrack & theme songs.

Recommended for those who enjoy something light & fluffy.

Embarrassingly Bad Writing...Cringey and a chore to get through the first half
aranH-123-5605419 June 2023
This was not good... definitely the worst Kdrama I've seen so far. The attempts at humor just did not land for me at all, and mostly made me cringe throughout.

It was one of those shows where things just happened because the writer wanted them to, with no real justification, buildup, explanation, or even an attempt at a set up. Without spoiling anything, the ending was like the writers gave up and just waved a magic wand so they could finish and go home... you'll know it when you see it. Even though nothing in the show makes much sense (definitely check your brain at the door), they didn't even bother to introduce even a convenient/contrived mystical or poetic excuse for the ending. It just happens out of nowhere... poof... story resolved.

The first half was a chore to get through. I'm used to Kdramas opening an episode with the last scene of the previous episode, but usually you get to see a new perspective, gain important context, etc... but not in this show. Expect a significant chunk of the runtime (and episodes are already pretty short) to be watching an identical scene multiple times in a row. This becomes less frequent towards the end, but it's super annoying for much of the show.

I will say that the last few episodes were decent, and they managed to be enjoyable. The lead actress is great at crying scenes for sure. Wish I didn't waste my time with it though.

I absolutely loved it 😍 Thumbs up 👍 to the person who wrote the Script.

On Dal and Song-Soo Jung were hilarious 😂 her acting is amazingly good.

The whole cast did a great job. This Series made me laugh until I cried.

I'm hooked on k-dramas. I've seen many. My only problem is that I can only Watch the ones that have the Audio for English And Or Spanish.

I totally recommend this series watch it you'll love it 😍

A history period drama you will love!
sini-20028 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A great historical time travel drama! The characters are likeable and fun, even the annoying characters you grow into liking. I love how they made Soo Jung not your typical shy main girl, but witty and confident and rude. All the couples are shipable but dang the chemistry between On Dal and Soo Jung is killing me and they are so cute. Also their kissing scenes are actually steamy for kdrama!

The drama obviously does have some issues, but can be forgiven cos i love this one so much, and all couples have happy ending. I was just wondering, where did Boong Boong get the time travel powers, why did it choose Soo Jung? And has it always been a time travelling car? Would have love to get some answers, but i guess they wanted to leave it to a mystery.

WORTH THE TIME IT TAKES TO WATCH THE SHOW!
Geeta35212 April 2022
My Only Love Song is a funny, heartwarming series. I laughed and I cried as I watched this drama. I loved the lead couple and the chemistry between them was convincing. I too watched it from beginning to end, without pausing. If you want to watch a Korean drama that has heart, this show is the one for you. Kudos to all associated with this drama.

Flashback central
chriswagnz30 May 2022
Overall a sweet rom com but spoilt by a continual stream of flashbacks, it's almost like they only had a couple of episodes of story but decided to pad it out to 20 episodes. Not one of the best k rom coms but ok for a wet Sunday afternoon.

CUTE

Warning: Spoilers
The characters were okay but the ending was dull. They could have made OnDal appear in the present day as a reporter or talent agent, not just popping out of bright lights from a shaky time warp. The biggest fault was that each episode was only +/- 25 minutes and the opening of each episode was five minutes of rehashing the previous one. That's why they have fast-forward buttons! It was entertaining at times and sometimes it was too drawn-out and sappy. A number of things were never explained and like previously written, the ending was rushed. I've seen better, I've seen worse. Oh, well overall it was okay.

I hop someone in Korean film industry reading this
marjan-496-84645620 February 2024
Hi, I saw two movies of this beautiful lady, I had to skip some of the scenes, because she screams a lot, doesn't she know the difference between being angry, screaming, screaming, and being bossy?!!

Screaming is a headache for me as I watch it in the original language! That's why I removed the like from the art of female dishes! They either scream or play the role of a weak and crude woman where the woman is strong!! The definition of a good woman in Korean movies is incomprehensible! Just as a bad woman is incomprehensible and incomplete.

I like Korean films but unnecessary tv series are toooooooo long and one of reason why, they get bad reviews!

It's breaking first rule: 1- logic because number one is most important rule of storytelling.

I know because I am also in this industry.

Thank you for your hard working effort.

With sincerely.
