Changing Cain: Brian De Palma's Cult Classic Restored (2016)
*** (out of 4)
Peet Gelderblom wrote, edited and narrates this video essay, which has him talking about Brian De Palma's RAISING CAIN and what steps he took to re-edit the picture and release it in a version that was what the director originally wanted to do before editing it in a different way before its original release.
It would be best that you watch this featurette after viewing the Director's Cut of the film as there are certainly some spoilers here. I thought Gelderblom did a nice job at explaining why he wanted to change the edit on the film and he goes into good detail about the changes that were made and why De Palma originally wanted the movie to look the way it currently does. Having seen the Director's Cut it's rather amazing to think that De Palma would have edited it in a different way because this version plays so much better and this featurette points out why it does so.
