This short film seems a range of animal/humanoid creatures within some form of society, when a new arrival enters and seeks a dominant position. Although physically odd, the various creatures all seem familiar – some are toady style characters who seek the ear of whomever the leader is; others seek to amass items in isolation of others; others are fiercely but blindly loyal; and others are nervous and unsure of everything.
The description of the characters within this short film should reveal something about how I feel about it – which is to say that it didn't completely work for me. Before I get to that, credit where it is due, because this film does at least feel original and fresh in how it delivers its message. The animation is good, and it is reasonably well constructed as an idea, however it is really not as smart as it thinks it is. Well, perhaps it is, but it is just too obvious in what it is saying. We all know the various bodies or types of people that the various creatures represent, and we all know what their actions (or inactions, or fate) mean in the bigger scheme of the world we live in. I found that this obviousness was not helped in turn by its generalness – an aspect which also limited its smartness.
A decent attempt at commentary, but it is both too 'on the nose' and too general at the same time.
