Good mix of inspirations

RWBY has some inspirations from bildungsroman, anime, video games and science fiction shows. It deftly combines this into a show with a lot of variety but everything fits into one cohesive whole. By far the best part is the character interactions and how they learn together.

Nice

There is really nothing much to speak of when we talk about RWBY Volume 1. It's funny. It has good characters; a great world-building, and the action is smooth and creative. Its soundtrack, specially the score and the trailer themes, it's pretty nice. However, the animation can make it rough to watch. It suffers of some clichés, too. But anyway, watch this without expecting a masterpiece. Funny, cute, likable characters.

A pretty good start for an amazing series!

While it may not have aged well in the visual department, RWBY Volume 1 has something going for it. The animation is janky, yet the fight choreography is amazing, given the limitations of the show back in 2013. The voice acting is... good for the most part, but that improves as time and the series goes on. If this was first show you watched from Rooster Teeth, then you won't believe that this the same studio that made Red Vs. Blue back in 2003. This is honestly their first show that didn't have strong harsh language or mature adult humor, and also their first show to be built from the ground up and original without source material!

If you want to get into the RWBY series, this is a good start!

Just be sure to watch the four trailers first!
