Quotes

  • Casey : Smart phone, dumb human.

  • Jin : I think religions are like monarchies. There might be a good king here and there, but the system is problematic. Too easy to exploit.

    Casey : So you're anti-monarchy?

    Jin : Yes.

    Casey : Isn't everyone?

    Jin : You'd be surprised.

  • Casey : So down with books, long live video games?

  • Jin : You could do a lot better!

Casey : Than what? Taking care of my mom? You obviously don't get that, do you? Because you're here hoping that your dad dies so you don't have to mourn for him.

  • Casey : I'm really interested in architecture.

Jin : Yeah, I hear this town is quite the Mecca.

  • [last lines]

    Casey : Thanks... for everything.

Jin : Thank you... for being here

Casey : I hope my mom's gonna be okay.

Jin : She's gonna be all right. She wants this for you. Caseey, she's so proud of you.

Casey : I feel bad leaving you, too. You gotta keep my posted, okay?

Jin : I will. But you need to stop feeling bad.

Casey : Yeah... so do you.

    Jin : Maybe.

Casey : Think I'm gonna quit smoking.

    Jin : Yeah?

    Casey : Yeah.

    Jin : It's probably a good idea.

    [referring to Eleanor]

    Jin : She's not a fan.

    [pause]

Jin : You better get going.

    Casey : I know.

    [They embrace each other]

  • Jin : Where are we?

    Casey : Nowhere!

    Jin : What is this?

Casey : This is where I went to school.

    Jin : That's brutal.

  • Casey : In the middle of all the mess, in this fucking strip mall there was this.

  • Jin : [translating his father's manuscript in Korean]  It says, "Effort plus cost," uh, "to see what is invisible and always visible." No, "omni-visible." No, "always visible." "Always visible."

Casey : Wow. I should ask Gabe at work. He's really into these kind of riddles.

Jin : Yes. Yes, what the fuck? My father was always trying to be so profound. Why wouldn't he just write the name down or draw a better picture?

Casey : Well, I didn't think he thought someone was ever going to read this. He probably knew exactly what he meant.

    Jin : Still fucking annoying.

  • Casey : You speak English.

Jin : You don't think Asians can speak English?

  • [Jin and Casey sit on the entrance steps of the Columbus City Hall]

Jin : I think this is what my dad was referring to.

    Casey : That?

    Jin : Yes.

    Casey : Hm.

Jin : If it's not, I'm gonna say that it is.

  • Jin : Did he tell you that we haven't spoken in over a year?

Casey : You're all he has.

Jin : That has never been the case.

Jin : He has his students, his work.

    Casey : You're his son.

Jin : You've been watching too much Korean drama.

  • Casey : I was going for something a little more subtle.

Maria : I don't even know what that means.

Casey : You know, less obvious.

    Maria : Why?

Casey : Because sometimes, you can taste the food better and then there's a better aftertaste.

  • Casey : I don't even know why you wasted your data.
