I was watching a movie called "Thomas Edison The Man" on Turner classic channel. Our story is about the famous inventor of the electric light and countless other devices commonly used in the twentieth century. Edison wanted to promote his idea against public scrutiny and religious groups to electrify a certain area of lower Manhattan. Business investors gave Mr. Edison a small deadline to meet. In this inspiring documentary we see history repeat itself twenty first century style. Nothing more frustrating then having an idea that works only to have business men and governments turn a deaf ear. Pushing an invention so fantastic that you can't wait to launch the innovation. British Engineer Bill Watts has an extraordinary, let's just say fantastic idea of producing potable water from the earth's two largest resources . The sun and ocean water. The lanky Mr. Watts campaigns an idea to the government of Qatar to set up a greenhouse in the vast desert of that country. We follow Mr. Watts on his quest in producing energy, vegetables and fresh water. Our film follows Watts zig-zagging his way from Conferences in Scandinavia to the cities of the middle east in hopes of selling his idea to desert based countries. Watts like Edison gets his project going being surrounded by natives speaking only Urdu plus the sweat and hot trailers of the Arabian desert. The trials, pitfall, snags and obstacles plus conferences, deadlines are the norm throughout the hour as we follow Watts on his mission to making his idea useful to the masses. For me personally this documentary gave me hope in humanity and the human spirit of innovation. Eye opening film for those skeptics who feel that fossil fuel will rule the world. It's really water that's the most vital resource on the planet.
