Channel 4 Bonuses Are “Slap In The Face” For Fired Staffers & Ailing Freelance Workforce, Bectu Says
“A slap in the face” was the verdict of broadcasting union Bectu to Channel 4 bosses’ decision to accept bonuses this year amidst a 250-staff layoff program.
Deadline revealed yesterday that the network’s CEO Alex Mahon, content boss Ian Katz and Chief Operating Officer Jonathan Allan would be taking their bonuses in 2024, although at reduced rates.
Responding, Bectu Head Philippa Childs pointed to the optics of the bonuses being taken at a time when freelance community morale is at an all-time low. Channel 4’s Remuneration Committee would have rubberstamped the bonuses around the time the broadcaster began implementing a 250-staff layoff program, which is seeing commissioning teams shrunk back amidst tricky economic headwinds and a slowdown in commissioning.

Marvel’s upcoming movie Captain America: Brave New World has created a lot of anticipation among fans, especially with the rumors about the introduction of the Serpent Society in the movie. Unfortunately, the film went through several re-shoots and as per some sources, the Serpent Society has been cut out from the movie.
Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World (2025)
The film was initially set for release in the summer of 2024. However, the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes slowed down the production and Marvel decided to make some major changes to the movie. This cut means that WWE star Superstar Seth Rollins, who was appearing as King Cobra in the movie, will also be removed. The reshoots of the film will reportedly begin in May and end in August of 2024.

There’s probably a clever German word invented to describe the increasingly common and frustrating act of spending an entire evening indecisively flicking through Netflix arguing about what to watch before just giving up and going to bed. The streaming giant has over 7,000 titles on its UK version alone, so you can be forgiven for feeling a bit overwhelmed by it all, and its recent tendency to cancel beloved Netflix Originals – some would say too soon – can leave you wondering where best to commit your time.

Russian actress Gia Skova wore a plunging swimsuit as she beat the heat for a Santa Monica beach day. In addition to acting, Gia has also appeared on many fashion magazine covers from around the globe.
The adorable swimsuit was navy blue with small white polka dots and was cropped to show off Gia’s lean legs and slim figure. The straps tied in charming bows, and the neckline stooped low.
Gia wore a large brown sun hat to protect herself, and it gave her look a regal appearance. The hat paired nicely with her straight blonde hair that whisked beautifully around her.

Tnght, the electronic duo of Hudson Mohawke and Lunice, has returned from a six-year hiatus with “Serpent,” a frenetic and feverish new song and video.
The track is built on wild vocal samples, including a series of groans and a pitch-shifted yelp that functions as the primary hook. Around those exclamations, the producers layer skeletal mallet percussion, glitchy static, pounding drums and festival-friendly eruptions of dirty bass.
Tnight paired “Serpent” with a bizarre video featuring crescent moons, rocky landscapes, strobe lights and two computer-animated faces with bulging eyes and snaking tongues.

Although it is expensive and time-consuming to enter the Oscar race, the value of a foreign-language film nomination proves tangible to the director and, by extension, to the country’s entire cinematic output. Here are some case studies of procedure and strategy from countries that have been included in previous shortlists, and have a strong chance this year for the Oscar.
Belgium
Recent nominees
“Bullhead” (2011),
directed by Michaël R. Roskam
“The Broken Circle Breakdown” (2013), directed by Felix van Groeningen

“Girl,” directed by Lukas Dhont
At one time, the group choosing the Belgian foreign-language candidate tried to alternate between productions from the country’s two official languages, Flemish and French, but a different system was put into place five years ago. “The principle is to take the best candidate and not to have a rotation between both communities each year,” says Eric Franssen, director of Wallonie Bruxelles Images (Wbi...

Nostalgia is in full effect for Riverdale Season 3 Episode 4. (And we're loving every second of it!)
Regardless if you're a brain, an athlete, a princess, a basket case or a criminal, you need to bask yourself in the awesomeness of this Flashback Friday: our favorite Riverdale parents are teenagers, and they've got major tea to spill.
The latest Riverdale trailer channels all the John Hughes vibes from the 1985 coming-of-age teen classic, The Breakfast Club. While this flashback has more of a 1990s spin, the spirit is still alive.
However, unlike the original detention crew, this group of future parents is doing more than just goofing off. Something sinister waits in their past.
Based on the promo below, we can see the group's first introduction to Gryphons and Gargoyles.
As Alice mentioned to Betty, the big event involving the game happened to the adults during their junior year of high school.

Though Iron Fist season 2 looks to be much different in terms of style and quality, it’ll still pick up some plot threads from the disappointing debut season of the Marvel/Netflix show. Chief among them’s the growing rivalry between Finn Jones’ Danny Rand and his former K’un-Lun resident and old bestie, Davos (as played by Sacha Dhawan).
As established in season 1, Davos and Danny were both up for the job of being appointed the immortal Iron Fist, the protector of their mystical home world granted the mighty power of possessing a glowing hand that lets them punch through just about anything. Obviously, Davos lost out and traveled to New York to challenge Danny, believing he wasn’t worthy of being the Iron Fist.

The director’s follow-up to Embrace of the Serpent is a sprawling tale of drugs, dowries and indigenous traditions
Ciro Guerra’s 2015 film Embrace of the Serpent is one of the recent success stories of the Director’s Fortnight sidebar at the Cannes. It received worldwide acclaim, did a decent bit of business (over $1m in the Us) for a black-and-white foreign-language film with no stars and marked the first Oscar nomination from Colombia. So it is no surprise his latest would be welcomed as this year’s opening film.
Birds of Passage is co-directed by Cristina Gallego, who produced Serpent and is given story credit here. In the most reductive way, it is another mafia story. But as with their previous film, it is the specificity that counts, and while certain genre tendencies prevent the narrative from truly unmooring, hardly a scene goes by without something fundamentally familiar being rendered in a unique fashion.

“Birds of Passage” starts in 1968 and encompasses a dozen years of violent upheaval in the northern Colombian desert, chronicling the rise and fall of a drug dealer and his family; the desert, however, turns out just fine. “Embrace of the Serpent” director Ciro Guerra’s latest surreal drama, co-directed by “Serpent” producer Cristina Gallego, once against pits the dying rituals of a remote tribe against the striking ambivalence of nature — this time, using the backdrop to explore the origins of the drug trade. While it never reaches the psychedelic heights of Guerra’s previous effort and relies on a more conventional pattern of events, “Birds of Passage” delivers another fascinating tone poem about Colombia’s fractured identity.
The narrative is structure around five chapters, labeled as “Songs,” much like the discordant melodies heard throughout: Wild Grass, The Graves, Prosperity, The War, and Limbo. Each installment takes place within the confines of the Wayyu people,...

The creative team behind 2015’s Oscar-nominated “Embrace of the Serpent” are returning, this time to tackle the origins of the Colombian drug trade. The latest film is called “Birds of Passage,” and it was directed by Cristina Gallego and Ciro Guerra, the producer and director of “Serpent.” No release date has been announced for the film, but IndieWire has the exclusive first trailer for what is sure to be another stunning tour de force.
While not much is known about the film, the creators did provide a short synopsis: “‘Birds of Passage’ charts the origins of the Colombian drug trade, through the epic story of an indigenous Wayuu family that becomes involved in the booming business of selling marijuana to American youth in the 1970s. When greed, passion and honor collide, a fratricidal war breaks out that will put their lives, their culture and their ancestral traditions at stake.”
